SAMBA, Feb 10: Deputy Commissioner Samba, Sheetal Nanda has given strict instructions to authorities not to allow the cremation of dead bodies on the bed of river Devika near Shiv Temple.
In a recent letter to Divisional Forest Officer, Forest Division Jammu, the Deputy Commissioner made a reference to a representation submitted by prominent citizens and social workers regarding the issues related to development of Devika Sathan Purmandal. She said the people have expressed grave concern over cremation of dead on the bed of Devika near holy Shiv Temple.
The DC said earlier in 2003 the prohibitory orders were issued by District Magistrate Jammu where in it was ordered that cremation of dead bodies should only take place at the cremation shed constructed for the purpose by J&K Housing Board downstream of Bus Stand Purmandal.
The DC has urged the Divisional Forest Officer to take immediate steps for implementation of prohibitory orders in letter and spirit and ensure that the firewood is issued only for purpose of cremating dead bodies at the cremation ground Panjtirath Ghat.
