JAMMU, July 8: A complete bandh was observed across the Leh district and Zanskar Division of Kargil district in protest against terror attack on Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya area of Bihar.
There was spontaneous response to the bandh call of Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) with people keeping their business establishments closed. Even educational institutions remained closed to express grief and sorrow over the tragic serial bomb blasts in Bodh Gaya.
All sorts of passenger vehicles too remained off the road from 10 am to 4 pm in protest against the incident. Though protest demonstrations were held in different parts of the district to express anguish over the heinous act yet the bandh passed off peacefully in the entire district.
Later, Ladakh Buddhist Association submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Leh for onward submission to the Government of India and Government of Bihar.
Stating that the people of Ladakh particularly the Buddhist community was shocked and numbed over the attack on Buddhist Stupa and the Bodhi Tree (Mahabodhi Temple) under which Buddha attained enlightenment 2557 years back, LBA president, Dr Tandup, through the memorandum, demanded stern action against the culprits involved in the terror attack.
