Clashes in Pulwama

Excelsior Correspondent
Srinagar, Apr 5: Clas-hes erupted in South Kashmir’s Pulwama town today against the arrest of nearly one dozen youth in police raids.
The clashes erupted in the main market Pulwama after some youths protested against the arrest of one Jehangir Ahmad of Dallipora and others during nocturnal raids at neighbouring Kakapora area.
The protesting youth enforced shutdown in the main market of Pulwama and resorted to heavy stone-pelting on security forces. The security forces retaliated by lobbing teargas. The situation, however, returned to normal later.
Police said that the arrested youth are involved in stone-pelting and other law and order related incidents. The police in Pulwama have launched a massive crackdown against the stone-throwers since past three days as the district is going for polling on April 12 for by-elections on Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency.
