JAMMU, Feb 27: Indicting the former Chief Minister and Union Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah for his controversial statement that Kashmiri militants were fighting for freedom of the “nation”, the former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that it sounds like that if the National Conference (NC) leader is trying to reconvert his party in the Kashmir Muslim Conference of early thirties and intends to take lead over the separatist Hurriyat Conference in justifying the violence in the Valley.
Thus, it is like indulging in a rat race with those elements who are out to camouflage the Pak sponsored proxy war by terming it as an indigenous struggle and misrepresent the ground realities, he said and observed that it was intriguing to change colours for petty politics, with an eye on by polls of two Lok Sabha Seats of Kashmir. More so, this also indicates frustration after loss of power, he added.
He pointed out that during the tenure of Dr. Farooq viz. 1996 to 2002, more militants were eliminated than in the period of any other Chief Minister.
Since the outbreak of armed militancy in this State in 1989, over 25000 ultras have been killed. Out of them more than 8000 were eliminated between 1997 to 2002. In 2001 alone in single year, the highest number of 2010 militants were killed. During this period, the practice of chairing the Unified Command meetings by the Chief Minister, were adopted.
It is also on record that Dr. Farooq used to talk of bombing the training camps of terrorists in Pak/PoK by saying that “Laaton kay Bhoot Baaton sey Nahin Mantay.”
Prof. Gupta questioned that what the N C leader is pleading these days, why he did not act in that direction at the time when he was in authority himself. Is it not like that to play with the galleries at the cost of National interest?
He alleged that the National Conference leadership was itself responsible for many problems in this State as both Congress and the NC ruled for most of the time since 1947 and their wrongs led to bigotry and outbreak of militancy.
BJP Kashmir Displaced District also condemned the statement of Dr Abdullah in strongest terms and accused him of instigating, provoking and boosting the sagging morale of terrorists and separatists.
The BJP Displaced District Executive Council which met here today under the chairmanship of its president Chand Ji Bhat said this way Dr Abdullah has sided with those elements and agencies who are hell bent on disintegration of India.
Bhat said Dr Abdullah is in habit of making controversial statements but this time he has crossed all the limits by aligning with Pakistan supported secessionist organisations.
The statement also said that Dr Abdullah has become so desperate for power that he can go to any extent. At this time when all the nationalist forces were needed to join hands , Dr Abdullah has stooped so low that he spoke the language of separatists which is highly deplorable.
ABVP J&K secretary Varsha Jandial has also condemned the statement of Dr Abdullah . Terming it well planned and highly provocative of NC chief Varsha said Kashmir is was and will be an integral part of India and all designs of the vested elements hell bent upon disintegration of nation will be frustrated with strong might.
She said it is true nation’s youth is fighting for freedom and that is freedom from terrorism, separatism and those politicians who consider Kashmir their fiefdom.
She said it is unfortunate that after being rejected by the people of the State Dr Abdullah has now started speaking the language of separatists and secessionists.
