JAMMU: Having joined politics around 13 years back, Congress party Corporator Bhanu Mahajan from Ward Number 21 has vowed to ensure every basic facility to the residents.
While interacting with the EXCELSIOR, the residents of this Ward raised several issues including traffic congestion, damaged street lights, deplorable condition of lanes and drains, insanitary conditions, noise pollution of commercial activities behind Peer Baba Lane Gandhi Nagar, encroachments by house owners and shopkeepers, etc.
“Regular traffic jams near Dudhadhari Temple are causing great problems for the residents. Even the pedestrian can’t move near this temple due to huge traffic jams especially in morning and evening hours”, Kulwant Singh, a resident said while talking to the Excelsior.
Another major issue of our Ward is damaged street lights, which is a matter of serious concern and needs immediate attention. “It becomes difficult for the people to move during evening hours. We fear while walking on the roads and that too without lights. We hope that the representative we have elected in the Municipal Corporation election will do the needful to get the street lights installed”, Sheetal Sharma, another resident said.
The residents residing behind the famous Pahalwan Sweet shop at Gole Market are facing acute shortage of drinking water. The worst sufferers of water shortage in this area are women, who fail to carry out daily chores without sufficient quantity of water.
“Water is being supplied in our area regularly, but commercial establishments in our area create problems to us as they use motors and store water in their water tanks”, Suresh said, adding that the water issue can be sorted out when there will be a check about the use of motors by these commercial establishments.
Insanitation is also a big challenge before the elected Corporator of this Ward. “Behind Rehri Zone opposite Gandhi Nagar church, there is a nallah, which remains choked due to throwing of wastes by the rehriwalas. As nallah remains choked, the water enters the houses and damages the household items during every single rainfall”, Pawan said, adding that the nallah should be cleaned in the shortest possible time and strict warning should be given to rehriwalas for not throwing wastes into this nallah.
Some of the parks in this Ward need immediate attention of the Floriculture Department as due to deplorable condition of these parks, the morning and evening walkers viz children face manifold problems.
“The residents have encroached the main road by several foot, which creates problems for the free flow of the traffic and sometimes leads to heavy jams”, a resident Pankaj Gupta said, adding that action should be taken against the encroachers including shopkeepers.
When all these issues were taken up with the elected Corporator Bhanu Mahajan, she asserted that all the issues including installation of street lights, traffic congestion, scarcity of drinking water, etc will be taken up with the concerned authorities for redressal.
“Women security is the main thing, which I would redress by getting the street lights installed”, she said, adding that issue of development of parks will be taken up with the Floriculture Department and it will be ensured that all the parks be developed for morning and evening walkers viz children on priority basis.
For the construction of lanes and drains, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) funds will be utilized, she said, adding that traffic congestion in various areas of my Ward including near Dudhadhari Temple, Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Apsara Road, etc will be taken up with the Traffic Department. “Deployment of more traffic cops in these traffic congested area will be sorted out soon”, Mahajan asserted.
Action will be initiated against all those, who are involved in noise producing commercial activities behind Peer Baba Lane Gandhi Nagar, she said, adding that anti-encroachment drive will also be carried out in the Ward.
“Regarding safety of women folk and strict action against drug dealers/consumers, I will take up the issue of increasing the night patrolling in my Ward with the higher authorities of the Police Department”, Bhanu Mahajan stated.
“Areas including Dudhadhari Temple, Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Apsara Road, areas opposite Gandhi Nagar church, Gole Market, etc fall under my Ward and I will work for the development of each and every area”, the Corporator assured.
