Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Aug 8: The entire area of Thater, Bantalab and Swaran Vihar as well as Muthi, Barnai, Gurah Keran and Patoli Brahmana including the surrounding colonies Dina Nagar, Rajinder Nagar, Vasuki Vihar, Anuradha Puram, Sarswati Vihar and Sharda Colony are facing worst power crisis in this humid and hot temperature of Summer.
According to residents of the area some times there is power curtailment for more than 12 hours at a stretch and in addition to routine cuts power remains off for hours together daily especially during the night hours.
According to Suraj Parkash Padha former district president BJP the power crisis has added to our sufferings and situation has not changed even after the installation of new lines and transformers.
The callousness of the Department towards the consumers is so grave that entire area of Thater, Bantalab and Swaran Vihar plunged into darkness for over 12 hours since 2am to 2pm on the occasion of holy festival of Raksha Bandhan.
The residents of these localities said that they tried to contact every officer of the PDD right from AEE concerned to Chief Engineer but no one responded to their phone calls., Pardeep Kumar a local resident of Thater said that we tried to contact every officer since 6am in the morning as power supply was off in the entire belt but we could not get any response from any quarter.
He said power cut also affected water supply on this holy festival. This is not for the first time that people face the power cuts of long duration but it has been a routine affair and people are put to many hardships always, he added.
He said people were forced to sweat in this humid temperature and it made life of old, infirm and infants quite miserable. He said despite the entire area being metered and people paying the power tariff regularly still they don’t get the proper service from the Department.
It is a pity that present Government had promised to do away with the routine power cuts but not to talk of routine cuts now we are facing power curtailment for 12 to 14 hours at a stretch and that too uninformed.
Deepak Kumar another resident of the area said that PDD has failed to solve the problem in the area though many deputations called on the concerned authorities many times in the past. He said there was not a single drop of water to wash the hands in the water tanks as due to over 12 hour power cut people could not fill the over -head water tanks.
This is unfortunate that on this holy festival people had to face power curtailment for over 12 hours, he added.
He said on routine days also these localities face power cuts after every half an hour day in and day out.
The residents of Barnai, Muthi and Patoli also complained that their localities continue to face unscheduled power cuts. Tirath Singh a resident of Barnai said that yesterday after the routine power cut from 10 pm to 11 pm electricity remained off from 11-30 pm to 2 am and during the day today it also remained off from 11-30 am to 2pm. This is the routine problem and the authorities at the helm of affairs are not taking pains in solving the problem.
However when contacted an Engineer of PDD said that there was a fault in 33 kv line from Burn Grid Station due to which power remained off for about 12 hours in Bantalab Swaran Vihar and Thather area. He said the fault occurred at 2-20 am and it was removed at 2 pm.
