Banihal observes complete shutdown over eve-teasing, assault of girl students

RAMBAN, June 4: Banihal town observed complete shutdown over eve-teasing and assault of minor girl students of Government Girls High School, Chanjloo by their teacher. However, DC Ramban ordered suspension of the accused teacher with immediate effect.
The irate residents of Banihal town observed complete shutdown over the incident today and also blocked the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for over four hours, leading to long traffic snarls.
The protesters were demanding strict action against the accused teacher and his termination.
On getting information, DC Ramban Mohammad Hussain Malik, ADC Ramban Nawab Din and SP Ramban Javed Ahmed Mattoo rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitators but failed.
Later, DC ordered immediate suspension of the accused teacher along with four others for not reporting the matter to CEO.
After DC’s action against the accused teacher, the protesters lifted their dharna and vehicular movement was restored on the National Highway.
When contacted CEO Ramban, said that a committee comprising ZEO Banihal Rizwana Begum, DIET Lecturer Javed Ahmed Wani and teacher of GGHSS Banihal AR Giri has been constituted for detailed enquiry into the matter. The committee has been directed to submit the detailed report within three days for necessary action, he added.
As per sources, students of GGHS Chanjloo visited Verinag and Pahalgam for tour few days back. While returning, a teacher namely Reyaz Ahmed boarded the bus of girl students and allegedly started molesting some of them.
The girl students reported the matter to their parents, who took up the issue with the school authorities.
After witnessing lethargic and shielding approach of the school administration including Principal, the locals along with the family members of the girl students caught hold of the accused teacher and other staff members and thrashed them severally.
On getting information, police rushed to the spot and arrested the accused teacher.
A case under FIR number 48/145 under Section 294 and 354 RPC was registered against the accused teacher at police station Banihal and investigation started.
