Army soldier commits suicide

JAMMU, May 6: An Army soldier committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at Transit Camp on Railway Road here last night.
Identified as Jatinder Singh, hailing from Taran Taran area of Punjab, the jawan was deployed with 37 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), presently located in Mendhar area of district Poonch. He allegedly consumed some poisonous substance inside 213 Transit Camp here late last evening.
The police said Jatinder was on leave and had reached Jammu to resume duties. He had to leave for Mendhar the next day. He was found unconscious by his colleagues, who informed the seniors following which he was shifted to the Military Hospital but declared as brought dead.
Jawan’s body was handed over to his family members after conducting postmortem, the police said.
No document or suicide note was recovered from him while a case has been registered and investigations started into the matter. The Army authorities have also initiated an inquiry into the matter.
