Srinagar, Oct 20: As a mark of defiance against the shutdown calls and to spread the importance of education and to inspire youth to rejoin schools, a unique initiative ‘school chalo abhiyaan’ was organized today in which over 200 students and 10 teachers from various schools of Sumbal and its adjoining villages participated in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, a defence spokesman said here.
The spokesman said the Army also encouraged the participants by distributing books, stationary and sports equipment to further boost the infrastructure of the schools. “Parents and elders were urged to send their children to schools so that they were not deprived of their basic right,” he said.
The locals of the area besides the teachers and the parents of the children welcomed the efforts of the Army and unanimously agreed that peace is the only way forward for a brighter Kashmir, the defence spokesman added. Pertinently, all the schools and educational institutes are closed across Kashmir in the wake of ongoing unrest.
