JAMMU, Jan 18: Notwithstanding the directions of the Governor N N Vohra about fast-tracking disposal of SRO-43 cases and numerous circulars issued by the General Administration Department on this issue, 800 cases of compassionate appointments are still pending in various departments of the State.
The Governor while running the affairs of the State in February 2015 had explicitly told the Chief Secretary and Administrative Secretaries of all the departments to ensure expeditious disposal of SRO-43 cases so as to avoid undue inconvenience to those seeking appointments on compassionate grounds.
Thereafter, numerous circulars were issued by the General Administration Department laying thrust on timely disposal of SRO-43 cases. However, 800 such cases are still pending in various departments till date.
This was admitted by the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who is also Minister Incharge General Administr-ation Department in the Legislative Assembly in response to the question of Mohammad Ashraf Mir.
“Though 1110 cases have been settled during the past two years, 800 cases are still pending in various administrative departments”, she said, adding “the pending cases are under examination at various stages and will be disposed of after completion of the requisite formalities as prescribed under rules”.
About the steps taken for expeditious settlement of these cases, the Chief Minister said that Administrative Secretaries have been asked to periodically review all SRO-43/94 cases pending in their departments. “A check list prescribing the formalities which are required for finalization of SRO-43/94 cases has been drawn and all the departments have been directed to process the cases strictly as per the check list”, she said.
“With a view to ensure early settlement of SRO-43 cases the issue has been listed as an agenda item for the monthly meeting of Committee of Secretaries and the Administrative Secretaries have been asked to submit a monthly return of SRO-43 cases received, processed and disposed of during a particular month”, Mehbooba Mufti said.
