5 Forest Deptt officials injured in smugglers’ attack

Srinagar, Dec 14: Five employees of Forest Department were attacked by smugglers in Chehrar area of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Following a tip-off about smugglers involved in felling of trees in the upper reaches of Sopore forests, a team of the Forest Department reached the spot, but the timber smugglers attacked them with sharp edged objects and fled from the spot.
Five employees were seriously injured in the attack and were taken to nearby hospital where doctors referred them Sub District Hospital Sopore for further treatment.
The injured officials have been identified as Feroz Ahmed, Irshad Ahmed, Shazad Ahmed, Abdul Kareem and Tahir Ahmed.
Police have registered a case and a hunt has been launched against the smugglers who attacked the forest officials.
