JAMMU, May 9: Geology and Mining team today seized four tippers for illegal mining in river Tawi here today.
As per the directions of the J&K High Court, all the mining and minor mineral activities in river Tawi in Jammu area have been banned. Some vehicles were still operating in the river during odd hours. The team led by District Mineral Officer (DMO) Jammu, BR Bhagat during surprise visit to the river early morning hours today, seized four tippers including one without number.
The vehicles seized today are- JK02AX/0895, JK02BC/ 1672 and JK02AX/ 2674. The fourth vehicle was without registration number.
The DMO disclosed that after the directions of the High Court in a PIL filed by a citizen from Jammu, about 50 vehicles including ten excavators/ JCBs and some tippers and tractor trolleys have been seized by the G&M department till today. They will only be released on the directions of the High Court. He said that any vehicle/ JCB violating High Court orders and operating in river Tawi will be seized, till the final outcome of the case.
