10 days extension on Entry Tax, Toll Tax exemption: Rather

SRINAGAR, Oct 1: Government today granted 10 days extension upto 10th October 2014 on the exemption of levy of Entry Tax and Toll Tax on import of material, for relief and rehabilitation of the flood affected people of the State.
Decision to this effect was taken at a higher level meeting convened here this afternoon to review the pace of progress of Banking Institutions  and Insurance Companies working in the State to deal with the cases of flood hit people of the State.
Earlier, the Government had granted exemption on Entry Tax and Toll Tax  on import of relief material upto 30th September 2014. The extension of ten days on grant of exemption on Entry Tax and Toll Tax upto 10th October 2014 has been taken to expedite the import of relief material to enable the NGOs/Institutions and doners to  sent relief without any difficulty.
Speaking on the occasion, the Finance Minister said that about 738 truck loads carrying relief material have been granted exemption in Entry Tax and Toll, adding that NGOs and donors will be provided every possible assistance to send relief for the flood affected victims. He asked the Insurance Companies to submit progress report to the Government about settling claims of the flood affected clients on weekly basis.
He said in view of the magnitude of the devastation, the Insurance Companies should redouble their efforts and further activate men and machinery to ensure quick disposal .It was informed in the meeting that that more than 8000 claims have been lodged before these Public Sector Insurance Companies out of which 247 claims stand disposed off.
