SP, DySP among 36 cops, several civilians injured in clashes

SRINAGAR, Nov 2: Two senior police officers among 36 police personnel and over a dozen civilians were injured across Kashmir in clashes while shutdown paralysed life for 117th consecutive day today in Kashmir.
Massive clashes erupted at Anchar area of Soura here after police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) conducted raids in the area to arrest youths accused of stone pelting. The locals including women came out and prevented police from carrying out raids against the youth.
As police and CRPF were trapped, they fired teargas, peppergas and pellets against the stone-throwing protesters. The clashes spread to adjoining Soura and Malik Sahab areas. The ding dong battles continued in the area for several hours.
Over a dozen protesters were injured, three of them critically in the protests. SP Hazratbal was also among several police personnel injured in the clashes.
Police said miscreants in large number pelted stones heavily upon the deployments at Anchar, Soura resulting in the grievous injuries to SP Hazratbal and 35 other police and security forces personnel.
“While dealing with the law and order in the area, three civilians who were part of the mob, also sustained injuries,” they said, adding that they were shifted to SKIMS Soura for treatment.
Police said the condition of all of them is stated to be stable. As the clashes were underway,  a house caught fire at Malik Sahab.
In Old City areas, hundreds of security force personnel were deployed in five police station areas of Srinagar’s Old City- MR Gunj, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, Rainawari and Khanyar – since early morning to prevent violence.
There was, however, civilian movement without any disruption in all these areas. In Civil Line and uptown areas of Srinagar, the routine movement of private transport and pedestrians was once again seen since early morning but shops, commercial establishments and educational institutes were closed.
In the evening hours, clashes erupted at Bohri Kadal, Safa Kadal and Rajouri Kadal areas of Old City between protesters and security forces. Police fired several teargas canisters towards protesters.
A police spokesman said: “The situation across the Valley remained under control barring six incidents of law & order which took place during the day. In district Shopian, miscreants pelted stones upon police and security forces deployments at Dachoo, Rabben, Nagbal and Sugan. Police chased them away by using mild force.
The DySP Sopore and several protesters were injured in clashes at Sopore today. “In Tarzoo, Sopore, miscreants in order to disrupt the normal life, pelted stones upon police and security forces deployment but were chased away. While dealing with the law & order situation, the DySP Police Component Sopore got injured and was shifted to Sub District Hospital Sopore for treatment”, the spokesman said.
