SAMBA, Dec 31: Up in arms against opening of a wine shop in the locality, residents of Rakh Amb Talli in Samba, held a protest demonstration against opening of wine shop, here today.
Protesters raised slogans against authorities and blocked Samba-Mawa road for more than half-an-hour. They were demanding that no liquor shop should be opened in their area. Several women also took part in the agitation.
“The shop is going to be shifted in our area close to our houses, following its relocation from Ghagwal area in the wake of Supreme Court order. Wine shop opening will adversely affect our children and will promote crime in the area,” said Pammi Devi, a local resident.
“`We would not allow opening of wine shop in our area. We warned the Government and Excise Department to either close down the wine shop or face strong protests,” said Rachna Devi, another local resident.
