Police officer among two dozen injured in clashes

Srinagar, Nov 4: Auth-orities today imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar to prevent violence while as a police officer was among over two dozen protesters injured in parts of Kashmir where shutdown paralysed normal life for 119th consecutive day.
Authorities imposed restrictions in several parts of Srinagar to thwart any possible protests on the occasion of Friday. Police and para-military Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was deployed at sensitive areas of Srinagar to prevent violence.
Clashes erupted between protesters and security forces at several places in Srinagar including Anchar area of Soura, Batamaloo and Zainakote.
And due to restrictions Friday prayers were offered at Jamia Masjid Srinagar since July 9 this year after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.
The normal life remained paralysed today in Kashmir with shops, business establishments closed and Public transport off the roads. Schools and colleges also remained closed.
After Friday prayers in Anchar area of Soura, people mostly youth assembled outside the Masjid’s and staged protest. Following the protests, clashes erupted between protesters and security forces in the area during which security forces fired teargas to disperse the protesters who were pelting stones on them.
The Deputy Superinten-dent of Police Hazratbal was among two policemen and several protesters injured in the clashes that lasted for several hours.
Clashes erupted between youth and forces in Humhama area during which security forces used fired teargas to disperse the protesters.
In HMT, Zainakote, clashes erupted between protesters and security forces in which several protesters were injured. Police fired tearsmoke to foil the protests.
In north Kashmir’s Palhallan town, clashes erupted as soon as people marched towards Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway after prayers.
Security forces tried to stop them near Government Higher Secondary School by firing stun grenades and teargas shells. However, protesters pelted stones on security forces leading to clashes.
After Friday prayers, protests were held in North Kashmir’s Bandipora town and it was followed by clashes between the security forces and protesters. Police fired tear smoke to disperse protesters.
Police said that except for few minor stone pelting incidents in Pulwama, Kulgam, Awantipora and Bandipora, overall situation across the valley remained peaceful and under control.
“During the day, life was normal in the Valley. Vehicles were seen plying on city roads as well as in main towns and on the inter-district roads. The shops, vendors in parts of Srinagar city and other towns were also seen doing their business,” police said.
Police said that last evening, miscreants tried to set on fire Boys Middle School Asthan Mohalla, Naid Khai in District Bandipora. Fire services and police immediately reached to the spot and brought fire under control at the initial stage, with the result minor damage occurred to the building and records of the school. A case FIR number 152/16 under Section 436, 511 RPC was registered in police station Sumbal and miscreants involved in this incident are being identified.
“Necessary security deployment was made in some vulnerable points in Srinagar and also in main towns of the Valley to prevent any possible untoward incident disturbing normal life and smooth flow of traffic,” police said.
In the meantime, Government High School Sadnara in Hajan area of Banidpora district was set afire tonight. The school was damaged in the fire.
Miscreants set ablaze Panchayat Ghar at Panzan area of Chadoora in district Budgam tonight. The building was partially damaged in the fire.
