GMCH mechanical workers’ protest enters 31st day

JAMMU, Oct 15: The indefinite strike of need based mechanical workers of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu and its associated hospitals today entered into 31st day.
About 102 mechanical workers of GMCH Jammu and its associated hospitals had gone on indefinite strike on 15th of last month under the aegis of All Medical (Mechanical) Workers’ Union, demanding their pending wages of 25-30 months and creation of a separate wage Head and their regularization.
Due to the strike, the various services like water and power supply, operation of RO plant and AC plant were badly affected in Super Speciality Hospital, Jammu, which was totally depend on the services of these need based mechanical workers.
President of the union, Puneet Sharma said that the administration of the hospital time and again threatened us to return on work but did not assure to clear our pending wages. Moreover, they even stopped us from registering our peaceful protest in hospital premises and compelled us to protest outside.
The protesting workers said their strike will continue until their demands are addressed and a written order issued in this connection.
