JAMMU, May 29: The All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations (J&K) and its allied social organizations from all over the State assembled in a symbolic counter rally at Press Club here to counter the negative publicity and misinformation campaign launched by a group of intellectuals of general category people.
This counter rally was aimed at to apprise the people of their rights and make them ready for  a long drawn battle to save reservation in its current form, a Confederation handout issued here today said.
The President of the Confederation, J&K Chapter,  R.K. Kalsotra, while opening up today’s program said that current system of reservation was provided for upliftment of those classes who have been decimated against for centuries. He further said that now that the effect of reservation has started showing results in upliftment of these categories. The sections who exploited them apprehend losing their hold over the deprived classes so they indulged in misinformation campaign against these people.
He expressed surprise at the strange stance of these sections who wish to eliminate reservation provided by the Legislature to people considering their factual, social, educational and economic backgrounds. He further added that this system of reservation includes people from every walk of society and they, by challenging present system in its current form, are creating trouble for their own communities who enjoy reservation in the form of RBA/ OSC/ ALC/ HC/ CDP etc.
Brij Mehra, general secretary of Kashyap Jagriti Manch while addressing the gathering said that a number of factors are taken into consideration while providing benefit of reservation to particular class/community. These factors include social, educational and economic backwardness and a single criterion is not enough to provide reservation to any particular community.
Zulfkar Chowdhary, Student leader said that constitutional right, once granted, cannot be withdrawn on some unreasonable and illogical cry.
Ashok Kumar, Chariman, Dalit Liberation Front, Anwar Chowdhary general  Secretary of Gujjar Bakerwal Conference and others addressed the rally.
