Clashes in Valley; one injured

Srinagar, Apr 14: Stone-throwing clashes erupted at several places in Kashmir valley today after Friday prayers against the recent civilian killings in security forces firing. One person was injured in these clashes.
In view of the sensitivity of the day, security forces were deployed in several areas of downtown and Budgam district to prevent post-Friday violence as separatists had called for protests against the killing of eight civilians on poll day last Sunday.
Due to stringent security arrangement, no stone-throwing clash occurred between youth and security forces outside Jama Masjid in Nowhatta area of downtown. The adjoining areas of Rajouri Kadal, Bhori Kadal and Saraf Kadal also witnessed calm as police and paramilitary were deployed in lanes and by-lanes.
In Natipora area on city outskirts, stone-pelting clashes erupted between youth and security forces after Friday prayers. No one was injured in these clashes. The clashes also erupted at Footbridge Parimpora area here during which police used teargas and pepper grenades to disperse the protesters.
Heavy clashes between youth and security forces erupted once again outside Jama Masjid Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Police lobbed over a dozen teargas shells to disperse the stone-throwers but they continued pelting stones. A police officer said one person was injured in Sopore clashes.
In Budgam district, the security forces were deployed in huge numbers to scuttle protests. However, soon after Friday prayers, clashes erupted in Narbal area of the district. The South Kashmir’s Tral and Tahab areas of Pulwama district also witnessed violent clashes between youth and security forces after Friday prayers.
