JAMMU, July 16: The dead body of a youth, who drowned yesterday in Ranbir Canal in Batehra area of city outskirts, was found today from the canal in Deharan area.
The deceased youth, who was an employee of a motor vehicle workshop located in Batehra area, had gone for a swim with some of his friends and drowned in the canal.
“Identified as Deepak Kumar (23) son of Ashok Kumar, a resident of Jourian, the deceased youth’s body could not be located till late last evening, when the search operation was suspended due to darkness”, a spokesman said.
This morning, Kanachak police along with SDRF team again launched a search operation and recovered the body of the youth from the Canal in Deharan area. After completing all medico-legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.
