JAMMU, Mar 10: Former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla has expressed serious concern over the mounting problems of  the common masses and alleged that Government has failed to address real issues of the people.
Continuing his mass contact programme to listen to the grievances of different areas of Gandhi Nagar constituency, former minister today visited Lower Gadigarh area of Gandhi Nagar where lightning struck several residential houses resulting extensive damage in the area.
While taking  stock of situation after visiting damaged households demanded immediate compensation to victims so that they can restart their life. Former minister directed for installing lightning conductors with the transformers which are in lightning prone areas and get damaged due to lightning.  He said  Govt should make a rule to install transformers along with lightning conductors.
On this occasion, locals gathered there highlighted their grievances including irregular supply of drinking water, ration and electricity besides worst condition of roads, lanes and drains. Expressing concern over non-availability of civic amenities to people, Bhalla asked the Government to give priority in solving the problems of the common masses. He said that the State is passing through difficult times with self-seekers and anti-people elements taking centre-stage and therefore, a duty has cast upon all to change the discourse under the banner of Congress and help in steering the State to political stability.
On the issue of DPs, the Congress leader said State Govt issued notification during March this year through DC Jammu, inviting documents to be submitted along with application form for all categories of DPs for claims. The PRO and DC have been appointed as designated authorities for this purpose. It is strange that even after several months no additional staff has been deployed to verify the documents of the DPs. He demanded inclusion of left out families, ownership rights to DPs of 1947, issuance of ALC certificate to DPs and reservation to their wards.
Bhalla said with the present pace of delivery, there is still huge gap in decision-taking and implementation on the ground. He asked the concerned Departments to ensure adequate availability of electricity and drinking water in the region.
Amrit Bali BCC president (Satwari),  Naib Sarpanch Gadi Garh Kewal Krishan Naib Sarpanch Jagmohan Sharma and others also accompanied Mr Bhalla.
