SRINAGAR, Nov 23: The flight operation resumed partially at Srinagar airport today after remaining disrupted for last six days with five flights operating this morning while all 12 afternoon flights were cancelled due to fog.
An Airport official said that the first flight landed at Srinagar Airport at around 9 a.m. from Leh. He said that the Indian airline Leh flight was followed by another Air India flight from Delhi and it was followed by GOAir, SpcieJet and Jet Airways flights from Delhi. He said that 12 other afternoon flights were cancelled due to poor visibility.
This is for the seventh consecutive day that the air traffic was disrupted at Srinagar airport. On Thursday around a dozen afternoon flights were cancelled due to poor visibility, on Friday no flight landed at Srinagar airport, on Saturday only two flights managed to operate and on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday all the flights were cancelled.
Hundreds of people are stranded at Srinagar, Delhi and Jammu due to flight disruptions at Srinagar Airport. However, some passengers travelled to Jammu from Delhi and Srinagar.
In the meantime, night temperature went up and stayed above the freezing point in entire Kashmir even as the Valley continued to witness foggy weather today.
Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 1.8 degrees Celsius, down from the previous night’s 1.9 degrees Celsius. Kupwara, in North Kashmir, registered a low of 2.1 degrees Celsius compared to the previous night’s minus 0.8 degree Celsius, while the minimum in Kokernag town in South Kashmir settled at 0.8 degree Celsius.
Gulmarg in North Kashmir registered a low of 1.0 degree Celsius, three notches up from the previous night’s minus 2.0 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam in sSouth Kashmir recorded the minimum of 1.6 degrees Celsius as compared to 0.2 degree Celsius yesterday.
The minimum temperature in Qazigund was recorded at 1.4 degrees Celsius and 1.2 degrees Celsius up from the previous night.
The night temperature in Leh town, in Ladakh region, settled at the low of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius against previous night’s minus 4.1 degrees Celsius. Kargil town recorded the minimum of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature at Jammu city was recorded at 10. 7 degree Celsius while it was 12.5 degree Celsius in Katra town, 8.9 degree Celsius in Batote, 3.0 degree Celsius in Bannihal and 5.6 degree Celsius in Bhaderwah town.
The day temperatures in Jammu city was recorded at 22.5 degrees Celsius, while it was 21.4 degree Celsius in Katra town, 17.8 degree Celsius in Batote, 20.7 degree Celsius in Banihal and 17.8 degree Celsius in Bhaderwah town.
The Meteorological Department has forecast light rain or snow at isolated places over the State in the next 24 hours.
