2 GST officials caught accepting bribe

SRINAGAR, Jan 8: Two officials of Goods and Service Tax Department, Srinagar, were caught red handed by the Anti Corruption Bureau while demanding and accepting bribe from an industrialist for issuing a clearance certificate.
The accused, namely Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani, a Multi Tasking Worker and Priveen Kumar Loomba, a Superintendent in GST Department, Government of India, located at Bishamber Nagar Srinagar, were demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 4,000 from the complainant Mansoor Ahmad Shayir, proprietor of M/s Reliable Silks, located at Chowdrey Bagh Rainawari.
The complainant had lodged a written complaint with ACB alleging that the accused public servants were demanding an amount of Rs 4000 as bribe for issuance of clearance certificate in his favour from the Department to get 30 percent CIS released on plant and machinery under Central package.
On this complaint, case FIR No.01/2019, P/S ACB, U/S 5(2) P.C Act 2006, r/w 161 RPC P/S VOK was registered and a team laid successful trap and arrested the accused officials. Further investigation into the case is going on.
