JAMMU, Oct 15: Two CRPF personnel were injured in a grenade attack by militants on their camp at Newa in district Pulwama tonight.
Militants hurled a UBGL grenade at 183rd Battalion of CRPF in Newa area of Pulwama district tonight. The grenade exploded inside the camp injuring two CRPF personnel.
The injured have been rushed to District Hospital Pulwama. They have been identified as Constable Amit Kumar and Constable Santosh Bharti. Kumar has shoulder injury and Bharti hand injury.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and are conducting searches for the militants’ responsible for the attack.
Meanwhile, security forces have launched a major operation in Kulgam district of South Kashmir after inputs about presence of militants in the area.
The operation was launched by 9 RR of Army, 18 Battalion of CRPF and Kulgam Police in Panipora, Chatabal and Kandipora villages of Kulgam last evening. House to house searches were conducted in the area but no militants were found.
However, this evening, security forces announced imposition of curfew in these villages as they have inputs that some top militant commanders, hiding in the village, are trapped. The people in these villages have been asked not to venture out till 6 a.m.
