Separate State status for Jammu region is only viable option: Langeh

JAMMU, Jan 12: Trifurcation of the State, separate State status for both Jammu and Kashmir regions and granting union territory status to Ladkah region is the only viable option that can meet the aspirations of not only the people of Jammu region but also of Ladakh and Kashmir regions, said Tulsi Dass Langeh, State president, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), while speaking in a seminar on the topic “Viable solution to address the aspirations of Jammu Region”, held here at Press Club Jammu here.
The seminar was organized by Jammu State Morcha and presided over by Shiv Kumar Sharma, Major General (retd).
Highlighting the discrimination meted to the people of Jammu region at the hands of Kashmiri rulers, Langeh said people of Jammu region suffered in all walks of life— in development activities, in services and in allocation of funds. He also blamed the leadership of Jammu region for not raising a united voice against the injustice being committed against Jammu region.
Endorsing the demand of separate State for Jammu region, MLA Ashwani Sharma said that separate State can only address the grievances of the people of the region. He called upon the people and the leadership of the region to get united and raise united voice for the statehood demand.
Advocating for separate State status for Jammu region, president, Jammu State Morcha (JSM), Prof Virender Gupta said that it is a regional demand. He snubbed those who see demand through coloured glassed and term it as communal.
General secretary, National Panthers Party, H S Jalmaria stressed for the reorganization of the J&K State with each unit having separate Assembly, separate Chief Minister, separate PSC, Selection Board and separate administrative and other independent offices.
President, Duggar Pradesh Party, Udey Chand said that there is no other solution except Separate State for Jammu province that can free the people of the province from Kashmiri domination.
Shiv Kumar Sharma, Shashank Choudhary and senior journalist, Sohail Kazmi also supported the demand of separate Jammu State.

Army holds ex-servicemen rally

SRINAGAR, Jan 12: Army’s Dagger division today organized a rally to honour ex-servicemen of Baramulla district to celebrate Army Day in Kashmir.
A spokesman of the Army said the Day is a salute to the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect our country and the people living in it.
The day is celebrated on January 15th every year. On this day in 1948, Lieutenant General K M Cariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief.
“Over 127 ex-servicemen from Baramulla district attended the rally and interacted with Major General Anil Chauhan, GOC, Dagger Division and reaffirmed their commitment towards the National Security,” the spokesman claimed.
He said prominent invitees included Colonel (Retd) Sheikh, Chairman, Zila Sainik Board and representatives of the District Administration.
“A medical camp and a painting competition for the children was also organised. Shahil Lone and Aisha Arshid were given prizes during the painting completion,” he said.

JAMMU, Jan 12: Jaikara: Profie for Progeny, a documentary on Amarnath Vaishnavi a veteran KP leader and RSS ideologue is all set to be released soon. This was stated by its Producer, Prof Virender Rawal while conducting the premier on the documentary at Press Club here this afternoon in presence of galaxy of leaders, social activists and prominent citizens.
The premier was conducted by Vyeth a social -cultural organisation.
The documentary is on the life of veteran KP leader right from his birth in 1925 to his Nirvana in July 2012 and it depicts his role as a RSS ideologue and a staunch nationalist in J&K which faced the challenge from anti national forces right from 1947 after the accession of the State with Indian Union.
The documentary highlights the role of Mr Vaishnavi as a Praja Parishad leader in 1953 when he joined the movement on the call of the then Jana Sangh president Dr Shama Prasad Mookerjee and was also jailed in Pathankote for breaking the permit system.
It also highlights Vaishnavi’s role in providing relief to the victims of Pak raiders’ attack in 1947 in Kashmir, in leading the community in 1967 agitation and other agitations from time to time besides championing the cause of Ladkhis.
The documentary, reveals that how Mr Vaishnavi served the community as well as the nation till his last breath. Whether it was settling his community members in camps after their mass exodus in 1989-90 and getting their day to day problems redressed or seeking admissions for their wards in professional colleges in other parts of the country, Mr Vaishanvi played a leading role.
The function was attended by Vijay Bakaya, MLC and chief patron of Vyeth, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, president PK, H L Chatta, president ASKPC, A K Raina vice president AIKS, Virender Riana, M L Saroop, B L Saraf, retired Session Judge, Prof G K Muju, Ramesh Hangloo, Veer Saraf, Sheela Handoo, Dr M L Anand Vaishnavi and others.
Prof Rawal on the occasion declared that Vyeth will also make documentary on Lal Ded a mystic Hindu saint of medieval Kashmir and on the contribution of prominent women of the State.
Vijay Bakaya, Dr Jitendra Singh and Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo on the occasion said that the film is a big tribute to the memory of Mr Vaishnavi who devoted his whole life for the cause of the society. His nationalism and zeal for the social cause was an inspiration for the generations to come, they added.
Dr Vaishnavi announced contribution of Rs 50,000 to Corpus Fund of Vyeth on the occasion while Mr M L Sarop announced Rs 10,000.

Teenaged girl attempts suicide by hanging self

UDHAMPUR, Jan 12: A teenaged girl attempted to end her life by hanging herself with the ceiling fan hook at her residence in Jakhani, Udhampur.
However, she was timely spotted by the family members who shifted her to District Hospital Udhampur. In view of her critical condition, doctors referred her to GMC Hospital Jammu for better treatment.
According to the last reports, she was responding to the treatment.
Cause behind the provocation could not be ascertained while Police has registered a case in this connection.

Rana reviews developmental needs

JAMMU, Jan 12: A meeting under the chairmanship of Deputy Chairman, Legislative Council, Javed Ahmed Rana was held here today to discuss various developmental needs and supply and stock position of essential commodities to the border villages of Mendhar and Balakot of district Poonch.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioners Development, Block Development Officers, besides Sarpanchs and Panchs of Tehsil Mendhar and Balakot.
The meeting in detailed discussed the demand regarding development of model villages in the border areas of Poonch district, besides the issues of road connectivity, power and water supply facilities in the areas.
Mr. Rana listened the demands put forth by Panchs and Sarpanchs sympathetically and directed the concerned officers to take all necessary measures to redress their grievances.

Vikar takes stock of people’s grievances

BANIHAL, Jan 12: In order to review post- snow fall situation in Banihal constituency, the Minister of State for Power and Technical Education, Vikar Rasool Wani, who is also local MLA, today held public darbar at his Banihal residence to hear public grievances.
Various deputations from different areas of his constituency met him and apprised him about their demands. A deputation of Mahu Mangith and Khari led by Sarpanch Gul Mohammad and Mohammad Sadiq demanded regular power supply, whereas a deputation of Ukerhal Phagmullah led by Jay Singh, Ab Gani and Panchi Ram demanded improvement in LT network in the area
Some deputationists sought Minister’s personal intervention with regard to snow clearance from inner roads of Banihal constituency.
They also submitted memorandum of demands seeking creation of new administrative units in various leftover areas.
After hearing the public issues highlighted by various deputations of Mahu Mangith, Neel Khari, Shagan, Senabati, Pagal, Bankoot, Ukerhal and Chamalwas, Vikar Rasool assured that immediate steps would be taken in early restoration of damaged power system, adding that special teams have been constituted to redress grievances of the people. He said funds have been released for repairing of Receiving Station, Ramsu to improve power supply position in the area.

Pawar asks people to strengthen Cong

JAMMU, Jan 12: State president of Mahila Congress Indu Pawar (MLA) has asked the people to strengthen Congress party for the better development of the State.
Addressing party workers meetings in Marh area of district Jammu today the MLA asked the gathering to strengthen Congress party at grass root level. She said that only Congress Party can ensure better and balanced development in all the three regions of the State.
Mrs Pawar also asked the Congress activists to meet the general masses and try to resolve their issues. She at the same time also asked the party workers to gear up their activities in view of the coming Lok Sabha elections. The locals also projected the issues of the public related to repair of roads, lanes and drains, providing adequate staff in the schools besides water and poor supply issues. She assured the public to take up the issues with the concerned authorities.

Sumo operators lodge protest against GREF

MENDHAR, Jan 12: Tata Sumo operators today held protest demonstration against the GREF authorities for not repairing BG-Mendhar and Dhar Galoon-Basuni roads which have turned into worst condition. The Sumo operators from Mendhar area today assembled near BG and held protest demonstration against the GREF authorities. They were shouting slogans against the concerned GREF officials for not properly maintaining 23 kms BG-Mendhar and 8 kms long Dhar Galoon-Basuni roads. They alleged that entire road was in worst condition. Entire road surface has broken and it takes double time to reach the destination. The vehicles condition has also affected with the worst ever condition of the road. They demanded intervention of Deputy Commissioner Poonch in this regard. They warned to block Jammu-Poonch highway to lodge strong protest if the authorities failed to take any action in this regard within four days.

SVLARC discusses OBC reservation

JAMMU, Jan 12: Shri Vishwakarma Library and Research Centre organized a one-day conference of lawyers to deliberate upon the issue of OBC reservation in J&K.
Speakers on the occasion termed 2 per cent reservation to OBCs as a cruel joke with the backward communities and demanded implementation of Supreme Court guidelines on OBC reservation. They also expressed their reservation over issuance of separately stapled OBC certificate to them in J&K for Government of India service quota.
The conference was organized under the chairmanship of Principal Ram Lal while Dr Sat Pal and Sudershan Salgotra were the chief guest and guest of honour on the occasion.
Those who spoke on the occasion, included Prof B L Bhardwaj, Madan Lal Kashyap, Amarjeet Chargotra, Pankaj Verma, Ajay Salgotra, Rohit Verma, Kapil Gandhi, Ashok Basotra, Latif Malik, Javed Qureshi and others.

Som expresses concern over privatization

JAMMU, Jan 12: Chairman, Dabgotra’s Charitable Trust and RTI activist, Som Nath Dabgotra today criticized the orders of the Minister of Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-Din for advocating privatization of Super Specialty Hospital, GMCH and SMGS Jammu.
The medical facilities at these hospitals are crumbling and the Minister’s irrelevant orders added fuel to the fire, he said, and demanded immediate revocation of orders.
“Private players only want to earn money. They don’t care for the sentiments of poor people. We will not let them do so”, he rued.
Dabgotra also opposed paid Evening OPD in GMCH, SMGS and Super Specialty Hospital. A fee of Rs 300 is charged in these OPD’S which a common man can’t pay, he claimed.
The State Government received a lot of funds from the Central Government for Super Specialty Hospital but they are not utilizing the funds properly, he said and threatened to start a Janandolan if orders of PP mode in GMCH and SMGS are not taken back.
