Tony seeks alternate land to farmers affected by Gharana Wetland development

JAMMU, Dec 8: DDC Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony today demanded that the Government should provide alternate land chunks to farmers affected by Gharana Wetland development initiatives besides Government job to one member of each family.
Tony was addressing a gathering during a protest march organized in support of Gharana Wetland Development hit farmers here today.
Other political leaders including TS Bajwa, RS Chib, Choudhary Manmohan Singh, GS Sony and Sheikh Abdul Rehman also joined the protest march which passed through R S Pura Bazaar. Over 32 Sarpanchs of the villages nearby also participated in the aforesaid march and raised voice of the affected farmers.
Later, the protest march culminated at SDM office RS Pura where farmers submitted a memorandum for early redressal.
Talking to reporters here, Tony said that agitation by the farmers today got assurance from Sanyukt Kissan Morcha leader Rakesh Takait, who telephonically informed Choudhary Manmohan Singh, Former Mayor that he will extend full support to the affected farmers incase Government will linger on the matter. He said that in case of adverse decision by the Government he will himself lead the protest in Jammu.
Tony citing the telephonic conversation said that Rakesh has asked the farmers not to face discrimination and raise voice for the rights.
Later, Tony said that Government has got huge land chunks near Chakroi Farm which are barren. He demanded that the same should be swapped for the land near Gharana wetland.
TS Bajwa, Former MP, said he will continue to support the agitation till the demands are met.
RS Chib, Former Minister said that the protest is apolitical and therefore he will support the cause of farmers.
Choudhary Manmohan Singh, Former Mayor, said that Rakesh Takait who is representing Sanyukt Kissan Morcha has extended full support for the rights of farmers. Singh vowed to fight for the rights of the farmers community.
Sarpanch Gurdyal Singh expressed gratitude to all the senior political leaders for extending full support to the cause of farmers.
