Srinagar, Aug 7: Police today said an unidentified male body was recovered by police in Hemischu area of Leh district on Wednesday evening.
A police spokesman said an unidentified male body at NHW near Hemischu, Leh in suspicious condition and the body of deceased is lying in mortuary room of Sub District Hospital, Khaltsi for identification.
A case has been registered under FIR No 89/14 under Section 279, 304A RPC to ascertain the identity and cause of the death of the deceased.

KATHUA, Aug 7: Deepa Kumari of HSS Magloor won gold medal in discus throw, while Suman Lata of the same School bagged gold in javelin throw in the inter-school athletic meet, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, which concluded at Sports Stadium, here today.
Radhika Khajuria of HSS Chandwan and Neha Raina of HSS Bhaddu claimed the silver medals in these events respectively.
Kanchan Bala, Deputy Director (Central) Youth Services and Sports was the chief guest on the occasion, while Activity Incharge, Jaswant Singh was also present.
The meet, in which 49 players drawn from 9 institutions participated was held under the supervision of Sunil Kumar, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Kathua.
The gold medal winners in shot put, long jump, high jump and 100 meter sprint included Shami Devi of HSS Hatli, Anju Bala of HSS Keerian, Neha of HSS Bhaddu and Shavali Sharma of HSS Bhaddu respectively.
200, 400, 800 and 1500 mtrs gold went to Rittu Sharma of HSS Ramkot, Jyoti Metha of HSS Kethera, Jyoti Mehta and Noori of HSS Magloor respectively.
The meet was officiated by S Inderjeet Singh, Kewal Krishan, Kuldeep Singh, Ganesh Dutt and Mohan Lal.
JAMMU, Aug 7: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by one Paras Gupta regarding indecent, vulgar, inappropriate and untrue advertisements and programmes on various TV channels, Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today granted two weeks time to the State and Union of India for filing compliance report.
After hearing Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi for the PIL whereas ASGI KK Pangotra for the Union of India and Senior AAG Gagan Basotra for the State, the DB observed, “in the earlier order the court had directed for disclosing the steps which the State Government seeks to initiate for regulating objectionable television content on the analogy of the provisions of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 and the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 in the State of Jammu and Kashmir”.
“We had also sought to know the steps which the State seeks to take for regulating the telecasting advertisements and programs, which are not in conformity with the various provisions of the Television Network Act of 1995 and the Cable Television Network Rules 1994, applicable in State of J&K”, the DB further said.
On this, Senior AAG Gagan Basotra sought further time to comply with the order dated June 10, 2014. Conceding the submission, the DB granted two weeks time for filing compliance report.
Division Bench also directed KK Pangotra, ASGI, to file a detailed affidavit regarding the steps taken by the Regulatory Authorities prescribed under the Act and Rules for regulating the television content as has been highlighted in the petition.
JAMMU, Aug 7: The Government today placed I/C Divisional Forest Officer Mahore, Mohd Rafiq Khan under suspension.
Official sources said that the action was taken by the Government on the basis of certain complaints against the Forest officer regarding short fall and poor quality of works initiated in his area. The committee led by Conservator of Forests, West Circle Jammu Sameer Bharti was asked to go for preliminary findings into the matter and on that basis the DFO was placed under suspension today.
Meanwhile, the Government also constituted a committee of senior Forest Officers to conduct detailed inquiry into the matter and submit a report within ten days to the Government.
Chief Conservator of Forests, Jammu Roshan Jaggi is the chairman of the Committee while Vasu Yadav, CF Working Plan and Brij Mohan Sharma, Regional Director, Social Forestry Jammu are the members.
JAMMU, Aug 7: PHE Workers Welfare Association (PHEWWA), Jammu province, has decided to observe Kaam Chhoro Hartal from August 31, 2014, for pressing the Government to resolve the genuine issues of the employees and daily rated workers.
The decision was taken in a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of provincial general secretary of the Association, Subhash Verma.
The meeting observed that Minister for PHE, Sham Lal Sharma as well as concerned higher authorities of the department have miserly failed to resolve the long pending demands of the employees of the department including release of wages of daily rated workers pending for last 20-22 months.
The meeting criticized the anti-employees and anti-labourer policies of the Government and demanded regularization of all daily rated workers of the department after five years of service.
Sharma said that unlawful and criminal silence adopted by the Government over the issues of employees of the department, has compelled the Association to observe 48 hrs Kaam Chhoro Hartal from August 31, 2014.

JAMMU, Aug 7: Continuing its drive to curb the smuggling of liquor and drugs in holy town Katra, police today arrested a bootlegger along with large quantity of illicit liquor pouches from Nomaen area of tehsil Katra in district Reasi.
According to SP Katra Kulbir Singh, on specific inputs, a team from Katra Police Station intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK20-5236 near Nomaen area of tehsil Katra.
During checking, police recovered 60 pouches of illicit liquor and arrested the bootlegger, who has been identified as Mohammad Iqbal alias Bittu, son of Abdul Samad, a resident of tehsil Mahore, district Reasi, SP said, adding that the motorcycle has been seized.
A case under FIR number 183/14 under Section 188 RPC and 48-A Excise Act has been registered at Katra Police Station and investigation started, SP stated.

SRINAGAR, Aug 7: Four commuters were injured in two separate road accidents in north Kashmir.
A police spokesman said a Maruti car JK045589 hit and injured three persons identified as Mohammad Fayaz Mir, Abdul Jabbar Mir, Qudrat Mir of Chatti Banatra, Bihar at Vadhpora in Handwara. All the injured have been shifted to PHC Chogal for treatment.
Another Maruti car JK05/8587 hit and injured a pedestrian, Ghulam Nabi Kuchay of Khanshab Budgam at Pancowk Baramulla. The injured has been shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The spokesman said cases have been registered in these accidents.

JAMMU, Aug 7: A woman bootlegger was arrested along with over 100 pouches of illicit liquor from Narwal.
As per police sources, on specific inputs, police party from Narwal police post intercepted a woman on suspicious grounds.
During checking, police recovered 110 pouches of illicit liquor and arrested the woman bootlegger, who has been identified as Asha Devi, wife of Rocky, a resident of Rajiv Nagar, Narwal.
A case under FIR number 149/14 under Section 48-A Excise Act has been registered at Trikuta Nagar police station and investigation started.
Police team led by Incharge Police Post Narwal SI Inayat Ali made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO East Mohammad Rafiq and SP South Rahul Malik.

JAMMU, Aug 7: The three-day orientation programme for freshers, admitted to under-graduate and masters programmes in agricultural sciences, veterinary sciences and biotechnology at SKUAST-Jammu concluded, here today.
In the undergraduate courses, 66 students each have been admitted in Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Sciences, and 30 students in Biotechnology. In Masters programmes the students have been admitted in 33 disciplines of Agricultural, Veterinary and Basic Sciences.
Prof P K Sharma, Vice Chancellor interacted with the freshers on the last day of the orientation programme. He laid emphasis on punctuality and discipline for overall development of the personality of a student. He advised students on acquiring cognitive as well as practical skills during the degree programmes to gain professional competence. The Vice Chancellor in his address dwelt on comprehensive arrangements made by the university to maintain the reputation of “ragging free” institute. For this, the university has setup anti-ragging committees headed by Director Education, SKUAST-Jammu. The theme of the freshers orientation programme was, “help your juniors and respect your seniors.”
The students were taken on a guided tour of different departments, university library, students’ centre, research fields and other landmarks at the two campuses of Chatha and R S Pura. Regular classes according to the time-table will begin from August 8.
The orientation programme was organized by the Directorate of Education. The Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Dean Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and heads of divisions along with senior faculty members were present on the concluding day of the orientation programme. Dr R M Bhagat, Director Education and Dr J P Sharma, Dean Faculty of Agriculture addressed the students. The proceedings were conducted by Dr S B Bakshi, Deputy Director Students Welfare.
