NAGROTA, Nov 15: Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today said that politicians can’t afford to take public for ride by indulging in rhetoric and populism, as they judge their representatives on the basis of their actions and not words.
“Trust deficit is a big challenge for politicians, which they will have to surmount by keeping up commitments”, Mr Rana said while addressing several election meetings in Nagrota Constituency.
Mr Rana was accompanied by National Conference leaders Ch Mohammed Alam, Som Nath Khajuria and Block President Rameshwar Dutt Sharma.
He said success of politicians lie in their comprehension of understanding genuine problems of the people and come up with answers to redress these in a time bound manner. “Sloganeering and false promises have terribly marred the credibility of those in public life, which should be a cause of concern for the politicians”, he said while stressing the need for corrective measures by promising what is achievable.
Referring to his vision of converting Nagrota as a model constituency, Mr Rana said it is a mission which he believes can be achieved with the support of people and sincerity of purpose. He made a mention of effort made in the past few years across the constituency and said the people can judge for themselves by measuring the schemes implemented for laying a sound developmental edifice across Nagrota.
The Provincial President, who is NC candidate for the constituency, said that the works executed over the years in different sectors were discernible which have instilled hope among the people about holistic development of Nagrota. He said in his capacity as Member Legislative Council, he has endeavoured to meet the most needed services in a time bound manner.
Mr Rana assured the people that given their support he will transform the developmental profile of Nagrota in next six years. “The potential of the constituency is required to be explored optimally”, he said, adding that being in the close vicinity of the capital city there was immense scope for Nagrota to become a modern satellite township. “What I have been talking about Nagrota to be transformed into Nava Jammu is an agenda to be pursued and accomplished in next six years”, he asserted.
Referring to the challenges confronted to the state, the Provincial President said that these can be met by having a strong and stable Government in the state which will be fully accountable to the people for failures as also successes. In this context, he made a mention of frivolous propaganda unleashed by Congress blaming National Conference for shortcomings and taking credit for all the good done by Omar led Government during the past six years. “The trend of shifting blame will come to end when the state gets a stable Government”, he maintained.
Mr Rana gave an overview of the achievements registered in various sectors of development under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and said this journey will gain further momentum in the next six years. He hoped that people will again repose their trust in National Conference by voting its candidates to victory with a huge margin.

BJP names 16 more candidates

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Nov 15: The BJP today released fourth list of 16 candidates for Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, which included three seats of Jammu region-Gandhi Nagar, Samba (Reserve) and Darhal but didn’t name its candidate for Nagrota seat.
Party sources attributed delay in announcement of candidate for Nagrota seat to finding a suitable nominee to take on National Conference strongman Devender Singh Rana, who is considered to be a potential candidate for the seat. Nagrota is the only seat left in 37 Assembly constituencies of Jammu region, where the BJP has not named its candidate so far.
Party sources said the names under consideration for Nagrota seat included Nand Kishore Sharma, brother of State BJP chief Jugal Kishore Sharma, who had vacated the seat after being elected to Lok Sabha, Chander Mohan Sharma and Ajatshatru Singh. The BJP has initially rejected the name of Nand Kishore on the ground that its campaign against dynastic rule of NC and PDP in the State will be diluted if Nand was given the ticket.
However, Jugal Kishore has renewed his appeal to party president Amit Shah for second thought on the name of Nand Kishore on the ground that he was grass root workers in Nagrota. Chander Mohan Sharma is considered to be another important option of the BJP for Nagrota.
The BJP has fielded its general secretary Kavinder Gupta from Gandhi Nagar seat against Congress heavyweight Raman Bhalla, Cabinet Minister for Housing. Kavinder was denied mandate for Jammu West but not has been fielded in Gandhi Nagar. Kavinder had been elected Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation for three times.
BJP has given mandate to Thakur Puran Singh, who had recently joined the party after quitting Congress, from Darhal seat. Singh was Minister in 2002-2008 Government. He had won Darhal seat as an Independent candidate in 2002.
The BJP has given Samba (Reserve) seat to Dr Devinder Manyal, who has taken retirement from the services to join the politics.
For the 87-seat Assembly, the BJP has till now announced its nominees for 70 constituencies out of which 31 are Muslims.

JAMMU, Nov 15: Charging the Congress of exploiting the Scheduled Castes for decades, BJP Anusuchit Jaati Morcha National general secretary Ramesh Chandra Rattan today said that even Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was repeatedly ignored by the Congress.
Addressing media persons here today along with BJP State spokesperson & State Election Media Incharge, Arun Kumar Gupta, State spokesperson Sunil Sethi, Anusuchit Jaati Morcha State President Surinder Bhagat and Morcha State Prabhari N.D. Rajwal, he said Congress also ignored the contribution  of Dr Ambedkar to society and nation as a whole.
Ramesh Chandra, , said that Dr. Ambedkar, the Architect of Indian Constitution was never honoured by  Party for his contribution to the nation. During first Lok Sabha elections Congress worked towards getting Dr. Ambedkar defeated from Bombay. The same Congress worked for his defeat during 1953 by election from Bhandara Constituency.
Ramesh Chandra said that a number of persons were decorated with Bharat Ratan by successive Congress Governments but a SC as genius as Dr. Ambedkar was, never treated suitable for such an honour.
Terming BJP as only political party which from very beginning has been treating SCs as equal as others, he said that BJP supported V.P. Singh Government to bestow the Bharat Ratan Award on Ambedkar. The portrait of Dr. Ambedkar was also fixed in the Parliament galaxy during this period.
The respect for Dr. Ambedkar in the scheme of things of BJP can be well judged from the fact that during NDA rule, Mau-the birth place of Dr. Ambedkar- was beautified and renovated and named as Ambedkar Nagar, Deesha Bhoomi, where Dr. Ambedkar embraced Budhisam, was also beautified by BJP Coalition Government of Maharashtra, Similarly, the BJP-led NDA paid rupees 16 crore to get vacated 26-Ali Pur Road bungalow, where Dr. Ambedkar had his last breathe, to set up an international level Memorial in memory of Dr. Ambedkar.
It is only BJP which deserves the votes of SCs and the members of this community also displayed their pledge during the recently held assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. The same wave now is witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir, where the SC voters want to get rid of mis-governance, corruption, dynasty rule and want to bring in BJP as they are yearning for a Government  which has concern for the down-trodden and respect for their leaders, said Ramesh Chandra.

Defamation case:Naqvi acquitted after Sabir Ali withdraws plea

NEW DELHI, Nov 15:
Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was today acquitted in a criminal defamation case against him by former JD(U) leader Sabir Ali after the court was told that the two have reached a settlement.
Ali had on September 16 sought a “written apology” from Naqvi, who is minister state for minority affairs in the Modi Cabinet, for allegedly linking him with arrested Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal. The court had on July 9 granted bail to Naqvi in the case.
As soon as the proceedings commenced before Metropolitan Magistrate Akash Jain today, the counsel appearing for Ali submitted that a settlement has been arrived between the complainant and Naqvi and the matter has been resolved.
Ali’s counsel also told the court that he had already moved an application for withdrawing the criminal defamation complaint filed by his client against Naqvi earlier this year.
“Keeping in view the settlement arrived at between the parties….The present complaint is withdrawn as settled,” the magistrate said, adding, “accused (Naqvi ) is accordingly acquitted”.
BJP leader Naqvi was inducted into Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s council of ministers on November 9 as minister of state for minority affairs and parliamentary affairs.
The court had earlier summoned Naqvi as accused, saying “prima facie” there was evidence and sufficient ground to proceed against him for the alleged offence of defaming Ali.
Ali, in his complaint, had alleged that Naqvi had termed him as a friend of suspected terrorist Bhatkal in March and the story was circulated and telecast in India as well as abroad through social media as well as various newspapers and channels.
The former JD(U) leader had said that after he made a statement appreciating Narendra Modi, who was then the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate, in March this year, he was removed from JD(U).
Ali had alleged that three-four hours after joining BJP, he started getting phone calls from his relatives, friends and media persons that Naqvi had allegedly tweeted against him on the social networking website Twitter.
BJP had on March 29 cancelled Ali’s membership after the controversy erupted following the tweet by Naqvi.
Ali, in his statement before the court, had deposed that the tweet by Naqvi has tarnished and maligned his reputation in the eyes of society, causing great mental suffering to him and his family. (PTI)
