KATHUA, Apr 25: Reaffirming his focus on inclusive and grassroots-level development, BJP MLA from Jasrota constituency, Rajiv Jasrotia, today inaugurated five major development projects in block Dinga Amb, collectively worth Rs 193 lakh.
The projects are aimed at significantly strengthening rural connectivity, improving accessibility, and addressing long-pending infrastructure gaps in the region, said Jasrotia while addressing the function.
The inaugurated works include a vented causeway at Kadetar, Katli, constructed at a cost of Rs 20 lakh, which is expected to provide safe and uninterrupted passage during Monsoon conditions and seasonal water flow. Another key project is the link road to SC Mohalla Balote, developed at Rs 23 lakh, which will provide much-needed connectivity to the area’s residential cluster, ensuring smoother movement for residents, school-going children, and emergency services said Jasrotia.
He said to further strengthen the road network, the Katli link road has been completed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh, improving intra-village connectivity and linking important local habitations. The Magloor to Jambal Dode link road, built at Rs 30 lakh, is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve access to nearby markets and administrative centres. The largest of the inaugurated works, the Dabhi Babittee link road costing Rs 70 lakh, will serve as a crucial connectivity corridor for multiple villages, enabling better transportation of agricultural produce and daily essentials, he added.
Jasrotia said a notable highlight of these projects is that several of the roads have been constructed for the first time since 1947, marking a historic development milestone for the region. For decades, residents of these areas had been demanding proper road connectivity, and the completion of these projects is being seen as a long-awaited fulfillment of those aspirations.
The improved road infrastructure is expected to bring transformative changes to the socio-economic landscape of the region. Easier access to healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and nearby markets will not only enhance the quality of life but also strengthen local livelihoods by facilitating smoother movement of goods and services, Jasrotia added.

POONCH, Apr 25: BJP spokesperson and former Deputy Mayor, Purnima Sharma on Saturday launched a blistering and no-holds-barred attack on the Indian National Congress, accusing it of “historic betrayal” of women by repeatedly blocking the long-pending Women’s Reservation Bill.
Addressing a press conference in Poonch, Sharma said the nation especially women has seen through what she termed as Congress’s “decades-long deception,” warning that the party will face a massive political backlash from women across India. “The nation, especially women, will not spare Congress for betraying reservation. Nari Shakti will not forget how their rights were repeatedly sacrificed for political convenience,” she said in a sharp tone.
She alleged that whenever the opportunity arose to ensure 33% reservation for women in legislatures, Congress chose “vote-bank politics over women’s empowerment,” deliberately stalling the Bill under one excuse or another. “For decades, Congress pretended to champion women’s rights, but when it came to delivering justice, they failed miserably. Their hypocrisy now stands completely exposed,” Sharma asserted.
Taking a direct swipe at the party’s leadership, Sharma said that despite having powerful figures like Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, Congress could never muster the political will to pass the Bill.
“Their legacy is not empowerment, but denial. They had the numbers, they had the power, yet they chose to betray the women of India,” she said.
Sharma further accused Congress of following a consistent pattern of obstruction, stating that even in recent Parliamentary developments, the party once again put political calculations ahead of genuine reform. “Earlier they hid behind coalition compulsions, today they hide behind technicalities. This is not inability, it is deliberate sabotage,” she charged.
Highlighting the BJP-led Government’s move to pass the women’s reservation law in 2023, Sharma termed it a “historic correction of decades of injustice,” crediting Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for demonstrating “real intent and decisive leadership.” “It is the BJP that has turned promises into policy. While Congress talked, Modi delivered,” she said.

Piped Gas Lifeline

In the present West Asian conflict, when the LPG cylinder supply chain, domestic as well as commercial, has been disturbed, the near-completion of the Gurdaspur-Jammu Natural Gas Pipeline comes as a breath of fresh air – quite literally. With over 90 per cent of the 175-kilometre pipeline work done and only three kilometres of laying left within J&K’s territory, Jammu is on the cusp of a quiet but transformative energy revolution. The trunk pipeline is expected to be connected to its source by September 2026, and piped cooking gas is set to reach Jammu kitchens before April next year. This is not merely good news – it is landmark news. The timing could not be more significant. The ongoing conflict in West Asia has sent ripples through global fuel supply chains, and the resulting LPG cylinder shortage has been acutely felt by ordinary households. The scramble to secure cylinders – with long queues, inflated costs, and unreliable supply – has made daily cooking a logistical challenge for countless families. The piped gas network, drawing supply directly from the source without the intermediate steps of bottling and distribution, will cut through this chaos decisively.
The economic case for this shift is equally compelling. The recurring costs of bottling, cylinder transportation, and last-mile distribution have long added invisible burdens to energy pricing. A direct pipeline supply eliminates these inefficiencies, potentially making gas more affordable and consistent for both domestic consumers and commercial establishments – restaurants, hotels, and small industries – that have struggled under an erratic LPG supply line. The additional promise of abundant CNG supply for vehicles further strengthens the project’s economic dividend, reducing running costs for commuters and transporters alike.
The groundwork is clearly being laid with intent. A detailed city survey has been completed, gas gate locations identified across Jammu, and the blueprint for the intra-city distribution network finalised and approved. The forest clearance hurdles that once threatened timelines have been resolved. Momentum is unmistakably on the side of completion. Work is near completion, and the next phase is already planned and marked. Credit must be given where it is due. This is a visionary project conceived and pushed forward with rare administrative will. In an era when infrastructure promises often outlast their deadlines by years, the Gurdaspur-Jammu pipeline stands as evidence that timely, purposeful execution is achievable. The wait is nearly over – and it has been well worth it.

“This rally reflects the anger of women who aspired to enter legislature but have seen their dreams shattered,” Sharma said.
She said that despite women constituting nearly 50 percent of the country’s population, their participation in governance remains limited.
“We talk about a modern India, but that cannot be achieved without equal representation of women. How can the country progress by leaving one gender behind?”
She accused the Congress of delaying the passage of the women’s reservation bill despite what they described as a “30-year-long struggle” for its implementation, alleging that the opposition blocked efforts to fast-track the reservation process. Criticising past Governments, the women leaders of the party claimed that little was done for women’s welfare before 2014.
The Mahila Morcha also alleged that the opposition is reluctant to politically empower women as it fears losing control.
They further claimed that during a special session convened to discuss women’s reservation, the opposition failed to support the bill.

SRINAGAR, Apr 25: Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha today called for a comprehensive strengthening of grassroots sports ecosystems across the country, while addressing the national ‘Chintan Shivir’ on sports in Srinagar.
The three-day event, organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, is deliberating on key policy challenges in the sports sector, improving coordination between the Centre and States/UTs, and formulating a roadmap to transform India into a global sporting powerhouse. The Shivir is being attended by sports ministers from various states, senior administrators, principal secretaries, and representatives of national sports federations.
In his address, the LG emphasized that a vibrant sports culture must take root at the grassroots level, beginning in villages and local communities. He observed that true champions are often discovered in small towns, neighbourhoods, and local clubs, where raw talent is first nurtured before being refined in professional academies.
Highlighting the need to integrate sports into everyday life, he said it should go beyond stadiums and competitive events to become a part of daily routines, thriving in streets, open fields, and community spaces.
The LG also stressed the pivotal role of physical education teachers in schools, urging policymakers and administrators to ensure they are provided with adequate resources, respect, and recognition. He noted that physical education teachers are instrumental in identifying and nurturing young talent and must not be undervalued compared to teachers of other disciplines.
Underscoring that sports is a powerful tool for social transformation, he said infrastructure alone is not sufficient. Instead, it must be complemented by purposeful initiatives and a collaborative approach involving schools, families, communities, and local administrations to create an enabling ecosystem for young athletes.
The LG further called for the optimal utilization of sports infrastructure and stressed the importance of ensuring that central schemes effectively reach rural areas rich in untapped talent. He also advocated for sharing and replicating best practices among states.
Calling upon the corporate sector to play a more proactive role, he said building a sustainable and inclusive sports ecosystem requires collective effort, with corporates acting as key partners in bridging the gap between talent and opportunity.
