JAMMU, July 18: Recognising the potential to undertake quality teaching and research, the University Grants Commission (UGC) awarded Special Assistance Programme (SAP)-DRS funding for 5 years to the Jammu University’s School of Biotechnology and the Department of Zoology.
Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu has congratulated the concerned departments for this landmark achievement.
The Special Assistance Programme (SAP) scheme is one of the prestigious programmes of the UGC, whereby it identifies and supports the University departments having potential to undertake quality teaching and research in various disciplines.
The grants are meant for purchase of Scientific equipments, fellowships and recurring expenditures.
“The SAP programme will help in enhancing the infra-structural facilities of these departments and will help in developing quality research programmes. It will also enhance the quality of teaching in the departments,” said JU official.
It is pertinent to mention here that the School of Biotechnology has earned many coveted recognitions like funding from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India (GOI) and FIST support programme from department of Science and Technology (DST), GOI. Both the Departments are striving hard to achieve excellence in teaching and research.
