JAMMU, Sept 14: A delegation of Taxi Operators Union Railway Station Jammu, led by its ex president Anchal Singh Manhas called on Speaker State Assembly Kavinder Gupta here today and submitted a memorandum to him.
The delegation informed him that the direct train service to holy township of Katra has affected their livelihood.  Moreover the prevailing condition of the Taxi operators of Railway Station is very apathetic and they are on the brink of starvation due to changing conditions. The extension of trains to Katra has hit them worst and the taxi operators do not get the passengers for weeks together. If steps are not taken to save the community of taxi operators they will perish some day.
They said the most of the operators have sought bank loans and the days are not far when their property will be confiscated by the banks as they will turn bankrupt after losing their source of livelihood.
They said moreover fulfilling of some legal formalities which have deteriorated the already burdened finances, such as documentation of taxies including Passenger Tax , Road Tax, Insurance, fitness etc.
Moreover the Railway authorities impose heavy parking fee for the parking of passenger taxies at the Railway Station and the Prime Minster while inaugurating the Katra Railway Station had promised that the Jammu Railway Station will not become another Pathankot but the situation is exactly becoming same.
The delegation seeking intervention of Mr Gupta appealed him to use his good offices and impress upon the Government to formulate some policies for the taxi operators of Railway Station.
