SRINAGAR, Aug 5: Strongly condemning the police action against lawyers demanding establishment of AIIMS in Jammu and Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers protesting against screening of their qualification credentials, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today said that the present dispensation seems relying and taking forward the policy of browbeating and application of force to muzzle genuine voices of people.
In a statement issued here, Tarigami termed the police action against Jammu Lawyers and ReT teachers who had tried to march towards the Civil Secretariat here to protest in support of their demands as “unjustifiable”. He also called for an immediate end to such bullying tactics adopted by the Government.
“The demand for establishment of AIIMS in Jammu region as well as one in Kashmir Valley is a just and genuine demand of the people of the State. So instead of entering into dialogue with the agitating sections of Jammu regions especially lawyers, the Government seems more comfortable silencing these voices through force and browbeating. This pressure tactics is most unfortunate and condemnable,” he said.
Expressing “serious concern” over the way protesting ReT teachers were dealt in Kashmir, the CPI (M) leader said that use of batons, water cannons and tear smoke shells against the employees is “inhuman and deserve to be condemned in strongest possible terms”.
Referring to the concern shown by agitating ReT teachers, Tarigami said that the proposal of Ministry of Education purportedly mooted out under directions of the High Court is bound to create chaos and uncertainty among the teachers’ fraternity. He said instead of creating chaos and making such an inconsiderate decision applicable in a sweeping manner, the government must gather reliable information and take action against all such employees whose academic credentials are questionable.
