JAMMU, Aug 5: Condemnation poured in over militants attack near Samroli area of tehsil Chenani in district Udhampur, in which two BSF personnel attained martyrdom and 13 others got injured.
Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed while condemning the attack, conveyed his heart-felt sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls. He also wished speedy recovery to those BSF jawans who were injured in the incident.
Union Minister of State in PMO and Minister for North East Region and Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh has expressed grief and concern over the terror attack in Udhampur. He also assured all help to the security forces, district administration and local people from the Central Government and as Member of Parliament. Immediately on receipt of information Dr Jitendra Singh, who is camping in Manipur on the Indo-Myanmar Border to review and coordinate the relief operations there, established contact with Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, who was on spot and enquired about support and assistance required from the Central Government.
Dr Jitendra informed the local administration about his sincere commitment for all the assistance required and intimated that he has spoken to the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on overall security scenario after the terrorist attack and need to strengthen the security grid. He also condoled the death of 2 BSF jawans who achieved martyrdom and assured that the compensation will be given immediately to the kin of martyr BSF jawans and to injured persons.
Minister has also offered the district administration to extend all possible relief to the affected families from MPLAD and from Central Government. He asked the Deputy Commissioner to ensure all steps are taken for safety and security of Shri Amarnath Yatra.
Dr Jitendra also expressed inability to immediately visit Udhampur personally due to being stationed at Manipur and informed the local administration that he will be rushing to State to take stock of the situation at an earliest.
Union Minister lauded the role played by the Village Defence Committees (VDCs) in fighting the militancy and said that it was due to vigil maintained by the VDCs that large number of militants were neutralized in the erstwhile Doda district and other parts of Jammu during peak of militancy.
He said that Union Home Minister has been approached for hike in the honorarium of VDCs on the same line as that of SPOs.
Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, has strongly condemned the attack by Pakistani militants on a bus carrying BSF personnel. Azad expressed his grief on the loss of lives and sympathized with the bereaved families.
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh has strongly condemned the firing incident which took place near Chenani in Udhampur district today.
In a message, the Deputy Chief Minister said that these types of incidents would be dealt with sternly and the forces responsible for the same would be given a befitting reply. He said that these incidents are handiwork of anti-national elements who are hell bent upon to create disturbance in the State and their nefarious designs would not be allowed to succeed.
JKPCC Chief Spokesman Ravinder Sharma expressed deep shock over the loss of lives and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and those who were injured in the attack. He strongly condemned the Pak sponsored attack. He expressed serious concern over the situation arising out of series of militants’ attacks and infiltration from Pakistan in the recent past besides continued cease fire violations by Pakistan. This situation is very worrisome and required effective measures by the Centre and State Government, he added.
In a joint statement, Janak Raj Gupta, former MP (LS), Jugal Kishore Sharma, MLC, and CLP Leader in Legislative Council, Hari Singh, former Senior Vice President-PCC, RS Chib, Former Minister, Arvinder Singh Micky, Former Deputy Chairman LC, Ashok Sharma, Ex-MLA, Jagdish Sapolia, Ex-MLA, Amolak Singh, Ex-General Secretary PCC, Chuni Lal Bhatt, Ex-General Secretary PCC, Brij Mohan Sharma, Former DCC president, Geeta Devi, Former General Secretary PCC, Shakeel Shah, Baljit Manhas, Rajiv K Gupta, Anil Kohli, Krishan Lal Gupta, Ex organising secretary, Gurdarshan Singh, Ex DCC President, Madan Lal Kashyap, Ex Executive Member, Dr Kanwal Singh, Ex Secretary PCC and Arun Sharma have expressed serious concern over the increase in militancy activities and deteriorating law and order situation in the State. The meeting condemned the attack on BSF personnel by the militants on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Samroli in district Udhampur. The leaders expressed their heartfelt condolences towards the brave martyrs and sympathies to those who were injured in the attack. The Congress leaders also expressed their serious concern over the continuous ceasefire violations, along the IB / LoC in which the civilian population has been made target by the Pakistan army and are facing serious damage to both life and property. They urged upon the Government of India and also the State Government to take pro-active steps to deal with the situation effectively.
Supremo of National Panthers Party Prof Bhim Singh condemned attack on BSF jawans on National Highway. He stated that most of the militants have crossed over the international border in Jammu District and also LoC with a sole mission to destabilize India. He said that entire National Highway should be handed over to the Army in J&K and the present State Government should be dismissed, Assembly should be dissolved and Governor Rule imposed in the State.
President, Jammu Province People Forum (JPPF) Pavitar Singh condemned the attack on innocent people going for pilgrimage. He further added that since the coalition Government has come into existence the activities of militants have increased manifold not only in Kashmir valley but in Jammu Province too. JPPF urged the Government to compensate the families of the persons killed in this encounter and also those, who got injured.
NCP held a meeting under the chairmanship of its president and former Minister Randhir Singh. During the meeting, Singh asked the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to save Jammu and Kashmir from the frequent terrorist attacks.
Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) led by its State President Sunil Dimple held a protest against the attack by Pakistani militants on the National highway killing two BSF personnel and injuries to several others. Dimple asked the Prime Minister to stop talks with Pakistan as the latter could not stop its nefarious activities.
