POONCH, July 4: Entire Surankote town will observe complete bandh tomorrow in protest against the opening of a wine shop on Bypass road, near Potha in Surankote area.
A joint press conference by the DDC, BDC, elected PRIs and Members of Beopar Mandal was held at Srankote today wherein, it was declared that a total bandh will be observed in the town and all the shops and other trade establishments and schools etc shall remain closed on Wednesday, to mark their protest against the opening of a wine shop and a bar in Srankote area.
The elected public representatives said that for the last several days, the people of Surankote area are protesting against the decision of the government, apprehending that youth of the area will be spoiled with the opening of wine shop. There is great anger among the public against the opening of this shop. Moreover, the matter was also brought to the notice of District Administration, Poonch.
Beopar Mandal president Srankote declared that there are about 3000 shops in Surankote, Draba and Potha area and all shall observe bandh on Wednesday, supporting this common cause. He said the local Trade body fully supports announcement made by the Committee from Jama Masjid and decision taken by the elected public representatives. He said people of this area totally oppose opening of wine shop at Potha on highway. He sought intervention of higher authorities into the matter. He said the Administration must shun its rigid attitude and abstain from taking anti-public decisions.
Prominent among those present in the conference included DDC Member Surankote-B, Sohail Malik, Beopar Mandal president Shunty Manhas, Chairman Tariq Manhas, Sunil Ghai, Dil Pazir, youth leader Tariq Ashraf and others.
