Social activists, Shia bodies call on DC Jammu, resent opening of wine-shops

JAMMU, Apr 28: The social activists and representatives of Shia organizations today raised serious concern over the opening of wine shops close to the educational as well as religious places in New Plot and Rajinder Bazaar area in Jammu’s Old City.
A deputation of the social activists and religious organizations, comprising of senior leader of Jammu Muslim Front and prominent social activist Shuja Zafar, President JMF; Qazi Imran, President Shia Federation; Ashiq Hussain Khan, Iqhfaq Qurashi, Jaffar Qurashi, Tanveer Hussain and others called on Deputy Commissioner Jammu and submitted him a memorandum conveying their anguish against the proposal of opening wine shops near Imam Bargarh in New Plot and on the road leading towards Shiv Dwala Mandir – Talab Khatikan’s Jama Masjid and a Govt School Ghas Mandi.
“The proposed opening of these wine shops will hurt the religious sentiments of the people and hence, they should be relocated,” the deputation said.
The deputation also expressed concern over the unscheduled power cuts in Jammu which have affected the normal life. They demanded that the electricity should be provided 24/7 as the students and old aged persons are the worst sufferers.
On listening to their grievances, the DC Jammu assured that their demands and grievances would be looked into by the administration.
