JAMMU, Sept 25: J&K Sikh Council has expressed grave concern over the increasing corruption and malpractice in the State and made an appeal to Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Raman Bhalla to overhaul the entire system by making it transparent and response to needs of public.
Talking to reporters here today Harmohinder Singh State president of the organization along with its other members Gurvinder Singh, Manjit Singh, Iqbal Singh, Nirmal Singh, Ranjit Singh and Divinder Singh said the rampant corruption in Revenue, Police and Housing and Urban Development Departments has been a cause of concern to common masses as they are the directly hit by the same.
He said the Pathwaris having nexus with top officers manage their prize postings. He alleged that the prime Government land at various places in Jammu has been transferred by them in the name of officers and bureaucrats by changing its title. While on the other hand the poor person is being harassed by them and for seeking a revenue record he has to pay hefty amount.
He also alleged that the residential areas in Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar and other prime places have been converted into commercial areas by the officers of the Housing and Urban Development Department and there is no check on the same. The colonies where poor people are living are not being regularized while the colonies constructed by builders having nexus with top level in Government do not face any such problem. A poor person is not allowed to install a brick of his house without seeking approval from JMC or JDA while the big builders are given raw deal, he added.
He said even in Police the SHOs and other officers mange their prize posting while the efficient and intelligent officers having no God Father in the Government are languishing in police lines or cells throughout their service career.
