JAMMU, Apr 10: Shiv Sena (Bala Sahib Thackery) today strongly criticized State Education Department for not fixing fees structure for private schools.
While talking to media persons, here today, State president of Shiv Sena, Dimpy Kohli said that private schools were charging exorbitant fees without taking permission from Govt. Besides charging exorbitant fees, these schools are also charging many so called funds, which are unnecessary putting burden on the pockets of parents,” he added.
The Shiv Sena leader lamented that despite repeated appeals to State Government, authorities have not taken any action in this regard and this dirty money game was going on un checked in the Education Department.
Stressing that the State Government must regulate fees charged by private institutions, Dimpy said that the Constitutional basis for regulating the fees charged by private unaided educational institutions was also considered by the Supreme Court in TMA Pai Foundation vs State of Karnataka (2002).
“The court laid down that States should devise appropriate machinery to ensure that there is no profiteering and capitation fees. However, a reasonable surplus to further education was permissible,” he elaborated.
The Shiv Sena leader said that the Government must consider this demand at an earliest as admissions were going on in private schools. If the Government fails to consider this issue, Shiv Sena will start agitation,” he warned.
