Sahitya Akademi organizes programme on Col Shivnath

JAMMU, Sept 5: Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, organized a programme on renowned critic and litterateur of Dogri Language, late Col Shivnath, here today at KL Saigal Hall.
In the programme titled “Through My Window” prominent writer, Prof Nilamber Dev Sharma spoke about the life and works of late Col Shivnath. Prof Sharma also shared his impressions and experiences about renowned critic and litterateur of Dogri language. The programme was attended by a large number of writers and colleagues of Col Shivnath.
Prof Sharma informed the audience that Shivnath came from a humble background but by the dint of his hard work and exceptional intelligence achieved much in life. He was the first youth from Jammu who had qualified IAS examination.
He further informed that Col Shivnath’s contribution to Dogri literature is unique in the sense that he was one of the first few ones who wrote about Dogri literature in English through critical evaluations and translations. His writings still serve as bench mark for the later writers. Sahitya Akademi award was bestowed upon him for his book of memoirs ” Cheten di chitkabri’, he added.
Another highlight of the programme was release of new Dogri publications by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi , including “Mosaic of Life” an English translation by Shivnath himself of his award winning book ” Cheten di chitkabri’.
Earlier while welcoming the audience, Prof Lalit Magotra, convener of Dogri Advisory Board in Sahitya Akademi, spoke about the importance of the programme and the outstanding contribution of Col Shivnath to Dogri literature. He also threw light on the importance of the books released.
Shantanu Gangopadhaya, Assistant Editor of the Sahitya Akademi, in the beginning gave introductory remarks about the programme and also thanked the audience at the conclusion of the programme.
