Rs 70 cr sanctioned for channelization of Landoi Choi nallah: Bhalla

JAMMU, Sept 22: Minister for Housing, Horticulture, Culture, Youth Service & Sports, Raman Bhalla today said that Government has approved Rs. 70 crore for channelization of 20.48 kilometer Landoi Choi nallah.
He said that the project include construction of new secondary drains in Trikuta Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Digiana Ashram, Greater Jammu, Ambedkar Nagar, Dashmash Nagar, Gangyal, Rampura, Thanger nallah (T4) and Tributary of Thanger nallah (TT4), adding that the projects have been handed over to Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) under ADB funding for early start of works.
The Minister was interacting with the locals at Greater Jammu after inspecting various construction sites of channelization of Landoi Choi and Thanger nallah, here today.
Mr. Bhalla said that the channelization work would start in the month of October this year with take off point at National Highway Bye Pass near Jodhamal School Public school.
He said that channelization of the nallah would be done up to Mehant Bachiter Singh College in Jeevan Nagar.
The Minister called upon the local residents   to cooperate with the ERA in completing the works within stipulated time frame. He said people of these areas have faced lot of hardships during monsoon season due to choking of the nallah.
The Minister said the Central Government has approved Rs. 70 for channelization Landoi Choi and Thangar nallah in Gangyal and rehabilitation of affected families whose land has been coming under the project.
Mr Bhalla informed that Government has also sanctioned seven new prestigious projects under ERA for Jammu city like construction of OHTs, installation of 19 tube wells, upgradation and replacement of worn out machinery of pumping stations, worn out pipes and strengthening of distribution network at Channi Himmat, Channi Rama, Mattoo Colony, Dilli and Greater Jammu.
Earlier, the Minister visited Barzalla and Phallain Mandal in Marh block and distributed relief cheques among the flood victims under Government norms.
Several deputations of the areas apprised the Minister about the hardships being faced by them due to flash floods and heavy rains.
Later, Mr. Bhalla also visited Bhour Camp and conducted public grievances redressal camp and assessed the development related problems of the people.
