Inter-State drug racket busted, two held with intoxicants

JAMMU, Sept 22: An inter-state gang was busted by Gandhi Nagar police with the arrest of two notorious drug peddlers and recovery of large quantity of intoxicants from their possession.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Nagar police station this evening, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Uttam Chand said that on specific inputs, police team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station laid a naka and intercepted a Tata Indica car bearing registration number JK02AF-4381 near cremation ground at Shastri Nagar.
He stated that during checking, police team recovered 8440 intoxicant capsules and 75 bottles of banned syrup from the vehicle.
SSP added that two drug peddlers traveling in the car namely Hazrat Ali alias Raju of Janipur and Sandeep Kumar, son of Ranbir Kumar of Udheywala were arrested on the spot.
SSP further disclosed that the accused were carrying the consignment of drugs from New Delhi to Jammu for distribution among the youth and their attempt was foiled by the cops of Gandhi Nagar Police Station.
“Hazrat Ali was notorious drug peddler and several cases already stands registered against him at different police stations”, SSP said, adding that case under FIR number 22/2010 and FIR number 36/2010 already stands against him at Police Station Kanachack and Police Station Janipur respectively.
SSP added that a case under FIR number 211/14 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station and investigation started to arrest other accused involved in this drug racket.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Police Station Inspector Manzoor Ahmed Kohli along with SI Verinder Singh made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Gandhi Nagar Harjeet Singh, Incharge SP South Sheikh Zulfkar Azad and SSP Uttam Chand.
