JAMMU, Sept 22: Minister of State for Cooperative, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today chaired a meeting of the officers of the Cooperative Department and the Chief Executive Officers of the cooperative institutions to take a firsthand account of the damages caused to the assets/records of the department and the cooperative societies/ institutions in the recent floods.
The Secretary to Cooperative, R K Koul informed that in Jammu division the cooperative societies/Government offices have reported a tentative loss of about Rs.2.50 crore to the infrastructure.
As far as loss to the infrastructure of banking institutions in Kashmir division is concerned, the General Manager of State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank and State Cooperative Bank informed that the headquarters of the banks at Srinagar are still under water.
The Chief Executive of Cooperative Bank institutions highlighted that in addition to the damages caused to infrastructure, the recent calamity may also hamper the recovery of the loans advanced, thereby affecting the institutions financially to a huge extent.
A request was made to the Minister to get the loans waived off by the Central Government.
The Minister directed all the banks to approach the concerned Deputy Commissioners and get the damages assessed through R&B so as to get authentic figures of loss.
Regarding trade loss because of non recovery of the loans, the Minister directed all banks to work out the losses and come up with authentic figures so that the matter is taken up with the Central Government.
Secretary informed the Minister that the information regarding damage to the infrastructure in Kashmir division where the banks/institutions have suffered immense damage is being collected.
