JAMMU, May 7: Dogra Front and Shiv Sena under the leadership of Ashok Gupta took out a protest procession from Raghunath Temple to Press Club against prevalent traffic chaos in Jammu city and the failure of Traffic Police in streamlining traffic flow.
Addressing the protesters, Gupta said that high claims are being made by the concerned Ministry and Traffic Police Department of streamlining the traffic flow in Jammu City for the convenience of the public but on the ground the situation is entirely different. Although the traffic signals have been fixed at a number of points but maximum of them are non-functional, he added.
The traffic position in the whole city is very chaotic particularly with heavy rush of mini-buses and the people belonging to Purani Mandi, Peermitha, Malhotra Mohalla, Raghunath Pura, Jullaka Mohalla and Shahidi Chowk find it quite difficult to travel from City Chowk to Purani Mandi and Parade Ground to Kaachi Chawani.
Gupta also condemned the Traffic Police for harassing the yatries of Mata Vaishno Devi and tourists in the name of checking.
He asserted that violations of traffic rules are on the rise as there is no one to check it. Though men in blue are seen on roads but they get active whenever there is VIP movement otherwise they keep standing and watching traffic violations mutely, he said and asked the Traffic Police to realize the need of implementing the traffic rules in proper way so that the general public is not made to suffer any more.
Gupta threatened to hold such protests further if the Traffic Department does not mend its functioning.
