Srinagar, July 21: Voicing its concern over “neglected” primary healthcare, a medicos’ body in Kashmir held this responsible for unstable and unbalanced health system in the State.
The president of Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK), Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan, said that as a result of abysmal primary healthcare, more often than not, patients end up going to tertiary care hospitals even for basic healthcare needs. “Primary health care is the foundation of any healthcare system that offers continuing, comprehensive and holistic healthcare for individuals and family in a community,” he said.
There is no standardization in terms of process, quality and service in primary healthcare and is highly fragmented, he said.
The DAK president said that the health system of the State is entirely tertiary care based with minimalistic primary care approach because of which rural poor suffer.
