Police officer martyred in point blank shooting in Srinagar

JAMMU, Sept 12: A Sub-Inspector of Police was martyred in a militant attack in Khanyar area of Srinagar’s old city this afternoon.
A Sub-Inspector identified as Arshid Ahmad of Kulmuna Kupwara was critically injured when a militant fired at him from a pistol at point blank range. He was removed to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) where he succumbed to injuries.

“We have lost a brave young officer. He was learning the nuances of policing. It’s a very tragic loss for us and his family. We express our deepest condolences. Perpetrators involved in this case have been identified and they will be brought to justice, “ said DGP Dilbag Singh during the wreath laying ceremony of the deceased cop at DPL Srinagar.
The DGP also said that the militant modules involved in pistol shooting were wiped out but it seems that this is a new module.
The perpetrators have been identified, he said adding that they will be brought to justice soon.
His body reached his native village in Kupwara late in the evening and thousands of people attended the last rites of the martyred Police officer.
Earlier, the DGP led the senior officers of police and paramilitary forces, civil administration and relatives of martyrs in paying rich tributes to the martyr. Floral wreaths were laid on the mortal remains for their supreme sacrifice made in the line of duty.
Special DG CID RR Swain, Special DG  Crime AK Choudhary,   ADGP, S. J. M. Gillani, ADGP G Mir, Div Com Kashmir, PK Pole, DIG Central Kashmir Amit Kumar, DIG CRPF RK Rana, DIG SSB Ranjit Singh, DC Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz, SSP Srinagar and other senior officers of police, CAPF and civil administration, parents and close relatives of the martyr were present at the wreath laying ceremony.
On the side lines of the wreath laying ceremony, the DGP while speaking to media said that  the  SI Arshid Ahmad was a brave and young officer who was at the threshold of the service and was deployed for medical checkup of an accused  to a hospital and on his return he was attacked by the terrorists, leaving him critically injured. Immediately he was shifted to the Hospital were he breathed his last. Considering the martyrdom of Arshid Ahmad a tragic loss for JK police, DGP extended his condolence to the bereaved family.
Dilbag said that every life lost is cause of concern for them and added that terrorists involved in the attack have been identified and follow up operation has been launched adding that perpetrators of the criminal act would be brought to justice soon.
