KATHUA, July 17: The PHE daily wagers and CP workers sat on hunger strike and took out a protest march along with their family members on College Road.
The workers along with wives and children took out a protest march during which they raised slogans in support of their demands while carrying the placards showing slogans ‘Release Pending Salaries’, ‘Do Justice’.
The protest march was led by its president Shiv Narayan Singh. The march started from PHE office and culminated at DC Office, Kathua. They also blocked the road for some time to register their protest. They were demanding permanent job status and release of five-year pending salary.
They urged the authorities to fulfill their demands and said if any untoward incident happened during the hunger strike, authorities will be solely responsible for the same.
President of the Union, Shiv Narayan Singh said that our four members were on hunger strike since last week and after their health condition deteriorated, the police took them to hospital last night but Government did not bother.
“Our families are starving as there is nothing to eat in the house. In such circumstances, it is better to die in hunger strike,” Singh said and appealed the Governor Satya Pal Malik to clear the position whether their demands will be met or not. “Why Government is wasting the time and harassing the poor workers,” he questioned.
