People protest, block road as boy dies after attack during play

RAJOURI, Apr 20: A minor boy was killed after he was allegedly attacked by some youth of the other community, flaring up communal tension in Khawas and Sunderbani area of district Rajouri today.
While a senior officer in the District Administration termed it as routine criminal case, the people of the area and some political activists have tried to give it as communal colour.
The deceased has been identified as Chander Parkash (14), son of Kewal Krishan, resident of  Khawas Keri in Kalakote. The police sources said that the boys were playing cricket on Wednesday evening at their village and during play Chander Parkash and Mohd Latief, son of Abdul Gafoor of the same village had some clash over minor issue during play.
Some boys were also grappled with them and Latief received injury and got three stitches. Then some relatives and friends of injured Latief allegedly beaten up Chander Parkash severely.  They also  lodged and FIR with the Khawas Police  Post against Chander Parkash. Later, the family members of  Chander also went to the Police Post to  lodge counter FIR but the police did not entertained the same. Today morning Chander Parkash complained pain and was removed to local hospital. The doctors referred him to Sunderbani Hospital which is about 80 kms from  that place but the boy died on the  way. The boy had sustained some internal injuries, they said.
The news of  boy’s dearth spread like wild fire in the area and the people of the area and relatives of the boy brought body to Siot and held protest demonstration. Later, they moved to Sunderbani and kept the body on the road at round 2 pm and blocked Jammu-Poonch highway for three hours. They demanded action against  incharge PP Khawas, arrest of all the accused and  Rs 10 lakh compensation for the poor family of the victim. Some political people also joined the protest and tried to give it communal colour. The traffic on the busy highway  came to halt.
Later, DC Rajouri  Dr Shahid Iqbal and SSP Yougal Manhas arrived there. They assured to take action against the accused persons. The District Administration framed SIT under DySP  Hqrs Rajouri  Jaswant Singh and assured fair investigation into the case. A Medical Board was framed which conducted postmortem of the body at Sunderbani and then the highway was cleared at around 5.15 pm.
