Aarushi case: NBW against Nupur Talwar extended till April 30

GHAZIABAD, Apr 18: The non-bailable warrant against dentist Nupur Talwar in the double murder case of her teenaged daughter, Aarushi and their domestic help, Hemraj, was today extended by special CBI court here till April 30.
The CBI told the court that it would not arrest Nupur till the pendency of her special leave petition before the Supreme Court but sought the extension of the warrant as an instrument to take action against her in case she does not get relief from the apex court.
The CBI said since the deadline of warrant was ending today they needed fresh orders from the court.
Special Magistrate Priti Singh observed warrant could not executed by the CBI since to special leave petition was pending in the Supreme Court.
The court fixed the next date of hearing on April 30 when it would decide the fate of the warrant.
The agency also filed its compliance report before court in which it said that searches were conducted at six places to arrest Nupur but she went into hiding.
It also claimed that she knew that the court has issued a NBW against her but despite that she kept evading arrest.
The special CBI court had issued the warrant against Nupur, mother of 14-year old Aarushi, as she was not appearing before the court, despite orders.
Talwars only daughter Aarushi was found dead at the family’s Noida residence on the intervening night of May 15 and 16, 2008. The next day, the body of their servant Hemraj was found on the terrace of the house.
Nupur’s husband Dr Rajesh Talwar was present in the court but she did appear before it.
After the warrant was issued against Nupur on April 11, the CBI had carried out searches in Delhi and Noida to arrest her.
Two days later, Nupur approached Supreme Court seeking relief where CBI assured the apex court it will not take any action against her during the pendency of her plea.
After hearing the CBI’s assurance, the bench of A K Patnaik and J S Khehar said that they had “total faith” in the agency and referred Nupur’s petition to the Chief Justice of India for its listing to an appropriate bench for hearing.
Meanwhile the CBI officials had said the impression given out by Nupur that the agency was hounding her was absolutely baseless. They maintained that no attempt was made to arrest her after she moved the Supreme Court.
Nupur pleaded in her petition before the Supreme Court that besides being an aggrieved mother and law abiding citizen, she also enjoys the reputation as one of the best dental surgeons of this country and if she would be arrested, then people would not make any distinction between arrest at a pre-conviction stage or post-conviction stage of this present case. Atul Agnihotri’s next home production to be without Salman

MUMBAI, Apr 18: Actor-turned-filmmaker Atul Agnihotri’s all three films so far, either as a director or a producer, starred brother-in-law Salman Khan, but his next home production will not include his ‘lucky mascot’.
Atul made his debut as a director with ‘Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha’ (2004) featuring Salman, Preity Zinta and Bhoomika Chawla. The film did not enjoy a good run at the box office.
Undeterred by this, he directed and even turned producer with ‘Hello’ (2008), a film based on the novel ‘One Night at a Call Centre’, in which Salman had a cameo.
Atul returned to production with Salman-Kareena Kapoor starrer action-romantic film ‘Bodyguard’ (2011), which was a huge hit at the box office. Now he is set for his next home production without the ‘Dabangg’ star.
“We have finalised the script, director and locations. We are in the process of putting together the cast and crew. Can’t make any statements until and unless everything is finalised,” Atul told.
“We can’t talk about the star cast, as we are in the process of finalising things. In two months time, everything should be in place. Then we will make an announcement,” he added.
Right from his first film, Salman has been a common factor in his films but not this time.
“It (film) is without Salman Khan. We do not have any appearance or anything of such sort, where Salman would be there. Salman is our lucky mascot. He supports all of us. He is always there for the family,” Atul said.
Talking about the project, Atul said, “It is an original film, not a remake. It is a coming of age naughty love story. The story is really nice and hence we are making this film. We have a title in mind and hopefully we will announce it with the cast in two months time.”
The shooting for this project will begin October-November and the film is likely to release in 2013.
Post the release of ‘Bodyguard’, gossip mills were abuzz that Atul was working on a biopic on south superstar Rajinikanth with his ad filmmaker friend Lloyd Ba Pista, who would direct it.
Atul was also set to produce the remake of Mahesh Babu’s Telugu blockbuster film ‘Dookudo’ in Hindi with Salman Khan in the lead.
“We had clarified that we are not going ahead with the project (Rajinikanth biopic). Even the other film ‘Dookudo’ (Telugu film) that was to be remade in Hindi, is not happening. If you have ten ideas, then out of it, one or two will work. We are looking for the ideal vehicle for Salman Khan,” Atul said. (PTI)

Take timely decision on prosecuting corrupt babus:CVC to depts

NEW DELHI, Apr 18: Irked over inordinate delay in deciding sanction for prosecution against All India Service officers, the Central Vigilance Commission has asked departments concerned to ensure timely resolution of such requests.
The probity watchdog has also noted that prosecution proposals are not accompanied with complete set of relied-upon documents due to which the competent authorities are not in a position to take a view on them and this causes delay.
“There has been many instances where the departments have complained of insufficient documents from law and enforcement agencies while seeking sanction for prosecution. Following which a directive has been issued to the state governments, Union Territory administrations, Department of Personnel and Training (for IAS), Ministry of Home Affairs (for IPS), Environment Ministry (for IPS) and CBI,” a CVC official said.
The directive asked all concerned to strictly adhere to apex courts guidelines and decide on sanction for prosecution within four months.
“Delays in issuing the sanction hold up the launching of prosecution leading to delay in conclusion of the proceedings. Such delays also adversely affect the morale of the public servant,” it said.
According to latest data, 29 cases involving 45 officials accused of corruption are pending sanction for prosecution for over four months. (PTI)

‘Hate Story’ will give erotic films new definition: Director

NEW DELHI, Apr 18: Quite perturbed with the way erotic films are being handled these days, director Vivek Agnihotri says through his upcoming thriller “Hate Story” he wants to change the way sexuality is portrayed in India.
The Paoli Dam starrer is creating a lot of buzz for its steamy scenes and Agnihotri feels that the movie should not be mistaken for a typical masala film.
“Erotica are very fine art. In this country, nobody treats it as a genre. We make it as a masala film by incorporating semi nude models dancing behind the actor. In this way it becomes titillation.
“I took it as a challenge when Vikram Bhatt (producer) asked me to direct it. Though it’s a very difficult genre primarily, I tried to introduce this in the mainstream with due dignity and originality. We decided to call it as an erotic thriller only because we don’t want to mislead our audience,” Agnihotri told.
The filmmaker, who started his career four years ago with multi-starrer thriller “Chocolate” and has made only three movies so far, said he is not in the rat race to make films every year.
“I am not that kind of a director who makes two films per year. I was busy in making a film called “Buddha in a traffic jam” and it consumed two and half years. The film stars Arunoday Singh and Mahie Gill in the lead roles. As soon as I finished it, Vikram called me for ‘Hate Story’,” he said.
Releasing on April 20, the film revolves around the life of a female reporter Kaavya (Paoli) and her transformation from a simple middle class journalist to a sex worker.
With the use of internet and exposure to Western culture, Indian audience have become mature enough to handle such content but the filmmaker thinks certain sections of the society still shy away from it.
“Erotica is in our DNA. It is present everywhere, be it in our mythology, literature or sculpture. But, I still feel the urban middle class is not ready for this,” he said.
To make the script tight, Agnihotri went through Indian and foreign literature. While reading them, he found there is a common thread in all of the literary works—the storytellers are female.
“We narrated the story in the language of today’s generation. I read a lot of erotic literature. I didn’t watch any such movies though. I also read about how various directors have approached the subject in their films.
“There is a very thin line between aesthetic and soft porn. It’s all about how you narrate the story. Hate Story is about power of women and I feel her bare back poster with a gun justifies it,” Agnihotri said. (PTI)

Auction issue: Kishore writes to President for returning award

KANPUR, Apr 18: Noted Gandhian writer and Padmashree awardee Giriraj Kishore, who was distressed over the auction of memorabilia associated with Mahatama Gandhi, today wrote to President Pratibha Patil wanting to return the award.
“Since the Indian government has not tried to stop the auction and it has already taken place in London, I don’t have any alternative but to return the Padmashree,” Kishore said.
A pinch of soil and blood-stained blades of grass from the place where Gandhi was assassinated in 1948 were among the memorabilia that went under the hammer yesterday.
In the letter, he has sought a specific date on which he can meet the President for returning the honour he was awarded in 2007 for his contribution to the field of literature and education. This is the second time he is writing to Patil over the issue.
Kishore had also written to Governor B L Joshi for giving back the award recently. However, the writer was informed by his office that his request cannot be accommodated as the award
is presented by the President.
He had contacted District Magistrate M P Aggarwal who too has refused saying that the return of the award does not come under the jurisdiction of his office.
To stop the auction, the Gandhian had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on April 5. He had subsequently approached the President, seeking her intervention after he did not get a response.
In his letter to Patil, Kishore had threatened to return his Padmashree if steps in this regard were not initiated immediately. (PTI)
