Take timely decision on prosecuting corrupt babus:CVC to depts

NEW DELHI, Apr 18: Irked over inordinate delay in deciding sanction for prosecution against All India Service officers, the Central Vigilance Commission has asked departments concerned to ensure timely resolution of such requests.
The probity watchdog has also noted that prosecution proposals are not accompanied with complete set of relied-upon documents due to which the competent authorities are not in a position to take a view on them and this causes delay.
“There has been many instances where the departments have complained of insufficient documents from law and enforcement agencies while seeking sanction for prosecution. Following which a directive has been issued to the state governments, Union Territory administrations, Department of Personnel and Training (for IAS), Ministry of Home Affairs (for IPS), Environment Ministry (for IPS) and CBI,” a CVC official said.
The directive asked all concerned to strictly adhere to apex courts guidelines and decide on sanction for prosecution within four months.
“Delays in issuing the sanction hold up the launching of prosecution leading to delay in conclusion of the proceedings. Such delays also adversely affect the morale of the public servant,” it said.
According to latest data, 29 cases involving 45 officials accused of corruption are pending sanction for prosecution for over four months. (PTI)
