Napier, Jan 13:
Describing New Zealand as a force to reckon with on their home turf, Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said that his team will not be taking the Black Caps lightly in the upcoming ODI series starting January 19.
“New Zealand are a fantastic side. They’ve got good bowlers and their recent performances have been really good. And especially at home, they’ll know the conditions better than us and for some who have not played here it will be a challenge,” Dhoni was quoted as saying by ‘The New Zealand Herald’.
The Indian team arrived here today for the five-match series which would be followed by two Tests next month.
“We’re not taking New Zealand lightly, we’ll give them the respect they should get and we know their experienced players are dangerous enough to win games by themselves,” Dhoni said.
The skipper feels the tour would be a good exposure trip for his teammates as they start preparing for the World Cup to be staged in New Zealand and Australia next year.
“It’s good exposure for them. The grounds here are a very different shape and it’s difficult to exactly pinpoint the fielding positions. They are quite different to where you usually place your fielders. Overall, it’ll be a fantastic tour for all the guys,” he said.
Dhoni said he is hoping for a good performance from his bowlers.
“Overall I’m quite happy with the bowlers. Again it really depends on the conditions. But if the wicket is favouring the fast bowlers we’ve definitely got bowlers who can make the most out of the new ball,” he said. (PTI)

NEW DELHI, Jan 13: Marking a generational shift in State politics, Union Minister Sachin Pilot was today appointed the Congress chief in Rajasthan where the party faced a rout in Assembly polls.
The 36-year-old Minister for Corporate Affairs is a close associate of party Vice President Rahul Gandhi and is the son of late Union Minister Rajesh Pilot and Rama Pilot, who was also MP for a term.
He replaces incumbent Chandrabhan, who was defeated in the Assembly polls.
Pilot’s appointment as PCC chief comes a month after the party’s poor performance in the desert state. Congress could secure just 21 out of the 200 Assembly seats, marking the ignominious defeat of the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress Government.

With Pilot’s appointment as PCC chief, an overhaul is expected in the party’s state unit. The new CLP leader for Rajasthan would be chosen in a party meeting on Wednesday with party general secretary Kamath and Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad going to Jaipur as observers.
“It is an excellent choice. He is a young and dynamic leader, who has proved his popularity. He comes from a very good family with his father and mother having already served the citizenry of the state. I am sure he will give a clear direction to the PCC in Rajasthan,” Kamath said.
Pilot, whose ancestral village is Vaidpura in Noida belongs to the Bidhuri clan of Gurjar community, is an MBA from Wharton Business School, USA. He is a graduate from St Stephens College, Delhi and has a a diploma in Marketing from IMT, Ghaziabad.
