New Delhi, Dec 12: Highlighting partial attitude towards Other Backward Classes (OBC), Vice Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir State Advisory Board for the Welfare and Development of OBC, Kuldeep Raj Verma today demanded 27 percent reservation for the OBC people in J&K as recommended by the Mandal Commission.
During his meeting with All India Congress Committee (AICC) Vice President Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, Verma apprised him that the population of OBC in J&K is more than 32 percent as per the case based census of 1931 and majority of the population from these classes is living in abject poverty.
“The GoI has provided 27 percent reservation to OBC as recommended by Mandal Commission but in J&K only 2 percent reservation has been provided to these classes that too on the nomenclature of other social castes,” Verma informed Rahul Gandhi.
With regard to the displaced persons of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) 1947, and Chhamb in 19965 and 1971 that include camp and non camp persons, the Vice Chairman informed Rahul that there was a need to sanction one time compensation for the property which they (displaced persons) left behind in 1947, 1965 and 1971 and the compensation should not be less than Rs 25 lakhs per family.
He demanded that sanction of cash compensation in lieu of land deficiency in respect of displaced persons of 1965 like the displaced persons of 1947 and 1971 because so far no such compensation has been granted in favour of the displaced persons of 1965. He impressed for one time compensation to the displaced persons.
He further demanded special recruitment drive for the youths of displaced persons in armed and paramilitary forces.
Verma also appealed Rahul Gandhi that the compensation should be given to the farmers for the land being used for defense purpose on the border and coming ahead of fence.
